Someone asked me to post some pics I took of a Carrera GT and a 914. I got inspired by the (subtle) similarities in the roof treatment and proportions. As well as the (vast) differences.
Herewith, a very gud day after one of the best weeks of my life:

And last one. A fuzzy scan, but I feel this angle/shot captures the 914's shape really nicely. Can't find the slide, however....

Caymans are no longer accepted here. We send all press cars to Bradholio for a proper convertible conversion and a 911 3.8 engine.
Then, and ONLY then, are they deemed "real" sports cars...

I have a good profile shot from the side of a 914 and a CGT. It really shows the lines.
Doh! Dont have access to it from the laptop.
Yellow CGT and white 914

No joke:
When I returned from Tuscany and the first drive of the Cayman last year, someone here at the office asked me if a convertible version was coming out anytime soon -- someone who should have known a lot better.
That said, it would be VERY funny to graft a pair of Cayman rear fenders, bumpers, spoiler, and 18-inch wheels onto a Boxster S and straightface it whenever someone asks: "It's a 2006 Cayman S. I just had Straman perform a convertible conversion."
The perfect modern PCA concours ride.

Hey Gusti!!!
No, no, not a real GT. Should have put "GT."
It was a 3.0-liter race car based on an original 1970 914-6 at one point in the 1980s. No idea when, exactly, the correct GT flares were welded on, but the car was a garden-variety 6 in yellow. By the 1980s, it was one of the fastest 914-6s in SoCal club racing. Then got a 3.6 in 1994-5 and then a 3.8 more recently. Know the car well as its owner and I have been friends for 14-15 years now.
This 914-6 has been up for sale many times in the last few years.

The older I get the more I love the lines of the 914. For another comparsion here's a 914 alongside a real 904.

No, seriously, your black -6 is one of the sickest looking cars in the club, IMHO.

Pete,
Are those Kenisis super cup wheels?
horizontally-opposed
Jun 13 2006, 10:06 AM
No, they are AKT replica wheels purchased from the Tire Rack in 1993-4. They are 17x8 and 17x9 and wear 225/45ZR17s and 255/40ZR17s. They are not custom made for the car, however. I remember that when Ernie bought them, Tire Rack shipped out two (a front and a rear) mounted and balanced to see if they would fit. They did (barely) so, and the other two were shipped out quickly.
My guess is that they were made (primarily) for 1980s 911s and 1990s 964s, and that they happened to fit in the GT flares just fine. In later days, Ernie spaced the fronts out for better looks but then got a little rubbing.
Sorry I don't have more info (such as exact offsets, etc.) than that!
