Just got my first 914 1975 1.8
When I got the car it would start and turn off just fine but would not IDLE......
So off to the shop it went for a new Air Flow Sensor and Tune-Up and all was well..
Replaced old starter w/ a High Torque Starter just to avoid any future problems....
But now the car will not shut off aftter taking the key out ?????
The motor was rebuilt with questionable wiring.... I have read 27 pages on wiring in the Forum and did not see this problem anywere>>??
Help a me please ---Thank you

That sucks, and you say that there is questionable wire in the car. I would first suspect something hot to the coil. Good luck.

It just means she wants to be driven. Go for a nice spirited driv, shake her around a little bit and everything will be fine.

My best,

No heckle...but did the DAPO put in an MSD ignition or anything? They will need a diode in the D+ circuit to prevent run on....

Could also be a faulty ignition switch....

I don’t think that was intended as a heckle but you never know….

If the alternator bulb does go bad it will cause charging problems because it is part of that circuit. Would it cause the car no to shut off, I doubt it but I could be wrong (it has happened before).

I would agree with Joe and/or Z (which is always a save bet) that you have a constant hot wire or maybe a bad ignition switch. Either way, it is going to take some troubleshooting the electrical system but hopefully somewhere will have your answer to save you some time.

Good luck &

I am sorry, I was not heckling. It can cause the symptom you describe.

Check the wireing at your starter, your back feeding the ignition.

The old starter/solenoid had 2 post I think one is for the fuel pump???
and the other is for ????
The new High Torque Starter/solenoid only had 1 post which the Mechanic split ...
Does any of what I said make any sense
