Yeah, saw it. There are, what, 11 of them worldwide. Going to take a Leno or Seinfeld to pony up for that, IF they're interested!

$150 would seem to be more correct, though I still wouldn't do it & who am I to say "what's correct"?

A friend of mine, who is selling a 993 thru Sloan, says this is an X-Seinfeld car. The two of them are trading Porsches with each other left and right. Another car Sloan has is a 550 that was Seinfeld's. Now Sloan has this 916 and the Burbar yellow '75 with side spears. The other 10 916 owners (including Dr. 914) will be watching to see if it sells.

That spare is really nice. WHere can you get one like that?

The compact spare came with the 916 and was the first car equiped with one. I have only seen that style with the 916 but maybe other 72-7? 911's came with that style too??

I use a compact spare in my car from later 911's with the air compressor stashed inside it.

'73's didn't come with it. Not sure about '74 & later.

When I installed my GT shroud, I simply drilled the spots on the factory mount and rewelded it to the bulkhead. I got a spacesaver and mounted it up. Had to get a longer threaded rod for the hold-down. Pictures are here somewhere.

Once mine was all finished, in, done, kaput... Aaron copied me biggrin.gif

If this is truely one of the eleven proto-type factory 916 that was "Americanized" to comply with federal satety statues and officially exported to the United States, it should have all of these factory installed items 1)2.4 liter 911S engine 2)916 gearbox (looks identical to the 915 except it has a 914 rear cover) 3)Brumos air conditioner (in oder to fit the compressor to the 2.4L mechanics recontoured the firewall behind the drivers seat resulting in a cockpit buldge limitingrearward travel of the drivers seat) 4)Special edition front and rear bumpers 5)fuel guage relocated to the center console 6)STEEL roof panel welded and blended in place (no targa top here) 7)Radio molded into the windshield.
Of the 11 cars produced only two were painted blue VIN #914 233 0017 current owner unknown and VIN #914 233 0018 last owned by Jerry Leonard of Indianapolis Indiana.

When the 916 project was originally cancelled five of the eleven were snapped up by members of the Porsche and Piech families immediately. Ferdinand Piech took 914 043 0195, Frau Piech took 914 233 0011, Wolfgang Piech claimed 914 233 0014 and Dr. Mich Piech took 914 233 0017 and Gerd Pierch grabbed 914 233 0015. Ever since they have traded amoung collectors for increasingly astronimical prices.

The most comprehensive accounting published to date about these cars can be found in Dick Reef and Ernst-Jan Mastenbraek's book "Caught By Camera- 914"
(euroboek, 1991) which lists the build number, chassis number, engine number and color of all 11 cars. Also the June 1994 issue of Excellence Magazine!!! Happy Shopping thumb3d.gif

a couple of little mistakes ...

it's a real 916 ... 914.2.33.0018 - last known owner wasn't Jerry Leonard, but Andy Anderson, CA
it's not "Americanized"
it hasn't an air conditioner - only 914.2.33.0012 has one
not every 916 has a windshield molded antenna! this photos are from 1972 / 1974 and show 914.2.33.0020, shortly after it left the factory

the car in question was repainted long time ago
currently it's gemini blue metallic, originally it was painted dark blue

the first owner of 914.2.33.0014 was Wolfgang Porsche, not Wolfgang Piech wink.gif

That silver replica, I believe, is the one that AA had for sale a few years ago at around $16K. It has a 911 engine, of course, not a V8. It was supposedly built by Brumos porsche in Florida as a replica of the real 916 they had at the time.
