I was going to get some VRacers for non-competitive track duty to replace my aging 710's, but Hoosier still has their R3S05 and A3S05's on sale for $131 each (205/50/15) with FREE SHIPPING. so it was a no brainer. I've run R3S03's and A3S04's before, but not these R-05's. anyone have a starting point on pressures for me?

205/50's on 15x6.5" wheels, <2000lbs, 115-120hp or so, 225# rear springs, 22mm torsion bars, 22mm front sway set med-soft, rear bar disconnected...

I run 225x45x15 all around - usually start my 04's at 31-33 front and 34-35 rear depending on air temps (am vs pm). Car feels more predictable with ~ 3lb differential. Have not tried going with more pressure up front out of fear of oversteer. Car is already a bit tail-happy. Dan Thompson will attest. Car weighs ~2100 lbs, with ~200 hp, 250 rear spring on 8" rims in rear. Have found consistently at or above 40lbs hot it gets slippery out back. Hope that helps. At the price you paid I think I may buy the close out model too. Good $$ deal !

What is the difference between the R04s and the R05s. I have never used Hoosiers before so I have no reference. Anyone have any experience with both/either.
I assume that the R is for track and the A is for AX?

Correct, R track, A AX. I missed so many events the last year that I just bought my first two sets of SO5's on close out also. I had them mounted by Topless Tire at the track and they said there is a little difference in the structure of the 05's compared to the 04's but it didn't change the air pressure requirements. I start mine out at 31# front, 32# rear, cold. That's before they sit in the sun at all. I like to have a cold starting point. My car is right at 2000#. They told me 31# to 33# was a good cold starting point. Don't let them get over 42# hot. The problem with getting accurate hot pressures for me is the time between my last hot lap and taking the pressure often varies by quite a bit. I don't like to tune out understeer/oversteer with tire pressures. I use the sway bars for that. It's too difficult to find the optimum operating temp to get your tires to stick without adding in suspension setup to the mix. So I only vary the front to rear by 1#. I hope this helps, I've spent a fortune on Hoosiers in the last four years to learn the little bit I know about them.

I ran 40 PSI hot on my last set of R3S04. 1850 pound car 110 HP
2 degrees camber.

tire temps were 140 across the face. I kept pace with the Lancer EVO mk8 all day long.

right or wrong that's what I did and it was great. I imagine less pressure would have gotten the temps up higher but I was never wanting more grip so I left them alone and concetrated on driving a cleaner line.

Pressures will be dependent on rim width too. I could run my AX Hoosiers at very low pressures on 8" rims.
