What are the solutions for finishing the sail without the chrome trim?

Is the fin cut off and re-welded?

Pictures anyone?

JP Stein has what you need. He will likely answer, but if not send him a PM.

Hi Nick,

There is local (santa rosa??) red 914 (with big bore /4) that has this mod, very clean look.....I know pictures have been posted of the car when it was featured in Excellance mag.

I know the owner is a member here, hopefully he'll chime in.

What about across the top of the targa bar? The top "seals" on the chrome trim...

I am doing it too. I am having the spot weld flange cut off , and the entire back portion of the sail seam welded. the only issue i see here is that the targa top will now overhang the new finished edge on the targa bar.

It is hard to see in the pics, but i think it will look great in the finished product. They also had to re work the part of the sail panel where it flares out and lands on the rear quarter, or it is kind of an abrupt transition. (where the tabs for mounting the trim are)

check my progress thread and my blog for more pictures.

My 72 came without the vinyl from the factory and the trim is painted. No chrome

trim at the bottem of the sail. Looks clean, IMHO.
