I was told by the MSD tech rep that either will work fine. Any real world experiences?

I use the round one, whatever it's number is, and the model listed for severe duty or off road use as a 914 does viberate a bunch. It mounts where the stock one does on the alt mount for the six which is handy.

That's the 8202. Sounds like a plan...

What is the advantage of one of these coils over a Bosch blue coil?

You want the "high vibration" MSD coil.....Blaster HVC #8222.
It mounts in any position. 42 bucks from Summit Racing.

This coil has an output of 45K even at high rpms. John Rogers said that his put out 36K volts in multi spark mode...under 3K rpms.

BTW, you need GOOD plug wires. I use 8.5 mm Magnacores.
Gap the plugs at .045-050. NGK BP5ES are good for 8.5:1 compression.

Why the need for a high vibration coil ? Is the blue high vib ?

I have a new set of 8mm wires I'm gonna put on.

As for the plugs, I'm running 10.0:1 on the compression...

*I* needed the HVB cause I had to mount the coil upside down.
I've been told that the "blue" coil won't supply the voltage to jump a big plug gap
at high rpms. Note the ass-up coil.
