So, I just got off the phone with a guy who has some 2.0 motor parts.... crank, rods, tin, fans and various other suspension and brake stuff. Tells me that if I give him $250 for the crank and rods I can have all the other stuff from years of messing with type 4's. Actually, I think I'll have to take it.

Sounds promising... but where am going to put this stuff?
anyone want me to look out for anything? I think its mostly mechanical stuff.

buy?

or

no buy?

New crank? Or if used...how many times has it been turned?
brer
used but good

not sure of its history.

he sounded kind of crotchety.
already said he has no original heads.

Not a bad price if in good shape, sell the rest and recoup some of your money.

cant you run a bug 90.5 piston with a 2.0 crank and make a 2.0L motor out of it?
I've got a set of 90mm barrels sitting around already.

No. But you should be able to get a set of used P & C's (2.0) prity cheep and rering them. Watch for someone posting about getting an engine kit from like Jake
more than likely they will not be useing the old jugs.
brer
alright, so lasterly... how do you identify a 2.0 crank and rods?

so as I dont end up with 2.0 bus stuff.
are there numbers on them?
SLITS
2.0 914 and 2.0 Bus rods and crank are the same.........

Crank, you would have to measure the diameter of the crankpin

Rods....2.0 rods are smooth at the little end. 1.7/1.8 have a square chunk of metal on the small end for balancing.
brer
Thanks for the feedback guys.

what would the diameter of the crankpin(?) be?
I can take tools.

Ok, I went and had a look and there was only some stuff I thought would be of interest. If anyone wants any of these things let me know. I'm not buying anything for myself at this point.

2.0 muffler w/ heat exchangers in good shape- 100
2.0 crank and rods w/ GA case (magnesium from the looks of it)- 250
Boge TS suspension kit (New) fronts, rears and springs. All NOS- 200

old front struts- free with purchase
rear trailing arms- free with purchase
box of odds and ends, like tin pieces and calipers- free with purchase

crank looks nice and case shows little wear on the thrust surface, but the middle bearing portion of the crank has surface rust from sitting on a shelf.

Thats about it.
Nothing I really felt like grabbing.
If you want something ask me for his number and you can call him.
its 30 minutes from me but I may be persuaded to pick up/ship for someone who needs it.
