Putting the ball boint on the strut. Haynes says 47 ft. lbs.

Guess what?

Sheared the freaking bolt! headbang.gif

What gives?

Is there some special way to install the bolt?

Special prayer, cuss words?

where is krusty?

what is the torque spec for the ball joint pin guys?

allan has the notch all lined up etc... just tap it in, and torque it down.
John
I don't have a torque spec, but I drive the wedge pin in with a hammer and only tighten the nut to keep the wedge pin from backing out. I think that is the intent.

I don't know how many times I have heard of this.

Don't try to seat the wedge pin with the nut. Only tighten it enough for the lock washer to lock.

15 - 16 ft lbs is plenty, its only an 8mm thread. Tap the pin securely into place before torquing.

Yepper.... Pin does most of the work. I did 20Lbs... probably overkill.

The fun is just to come. Try getting the damn ball joint to control arm nut to 180 Lbs. Hope you have a gorilla with you. I know I could not get it there. 160 is all I could manage.

The higher torque spec is for the early split strut with a 10mm bolt and nut.

The spec for the wedge pin nut is 15.9 ft lbs.

don't feel bad, even with a dentist, a machinist and a guy in an FBI as a peanut gallery, I still did the same thing!
I would go with what James posted!
