Full Version: Ball Socket for shift linkage

Guy at work had his car not go into gear. We checked the adjustment on the clutch cable and it is fine. I looked under the car while he moved the shifter and nothing down there seemed to be binding or hitting. We pulled the dust boot off and then we found the plastic ball socket.. or, half of it anyway.

This is in haynes, page 89, fig 5.27 #25.

Where can he get one of these to replace the broken one. Also, are they available in anything other than plastic as an upgrade?

If you are going to take it apart, replace all the bushings. Probably all are in rough shape. Don't forget the blue loctite for the cone screws(get new ones of those too, just in case)

If you getting all the bushings make sure you tell them what year the car is (Dave will ask) as there are different bushings for different years (early vs late)
