Considering a project which would fit a 928 automatic transmission into a 914 V8 conversion.

Looking for comments from informed clubbers, especially if there's someone out there that has done one.

Appears R&P does NOT have to be flipped.
Appears the starter will have to be installed from the engine side.
Will require a custom adapter plate and, probably, a custom flywheel.
Not sure of the fitment ( length, width, etc. ) and the angle as a result of the CV exit points.

Any comments / advice would be appreciated ...

Save yourself a BUNCH of hassle and use the Corvette rear tranny solution.

The issue is: the axle location.

Our gearboxes have the gear cluster BEHIND the axle line. They have it in FRONT of the axle line. You would have to extend the car 2 feet.

KEP sells and adapter for an Audi5000 Automatic that uses Ford C4 auto tranny parts (same size) It will handle a decent SBC 350

Besides, as expensive a Mercedez Benz trans is to repair, why create a lot more work for yourself?

Here is an Interesting thought:

996TT ChickTronic

They will handle an easy 550hp and 500lb ft or torque.

Just dont use the front drive portion.. it is also a Mercedes tranny.

Damn.. not sure if you can flip the diff or not...

928 trans is 150 pounds for a manual and well over 200 for an auto.
the input to the trans is via and impeller shaft. you would have to figure out bell housing. one off piece.

how about a subaru 2wd auto box?
