A local gent has a 74 roller which I can get the suspenion off of. My teener is a 71 -4 and I am trying to determine what all I need to get from him, I would like to use everything available,i.e., brakes, sway bars, etc. can I get away with just using the entire trailing arm with stub axles? also how what do i need for the e-brake?------Tony

simplest version:

you can only use the front suspension...entire assembly or use the struts with the correct (later model year) ball joints...thru the body swaybars are prefered over the underbody mount that I think the SC's use...

for the rear 5 lug, check out Eric Shea in the Resource section

front: everything! the complete front end, a-arms, torsion bars, crossmember, struts & shocks, even the underbody swaybar if you have one ...

unbolt the whole assembly from the 911 and just drop it into the 914, no need to take anything apart, the whole thing will just bolt right up.

rear: next to nothing.

Be sure to add up the costs before you embark down this path. It's not cheap.

geniusanthony
got lucky on cost...6&7x16's w/tires for 650, whatever susp I need from the 74 300. that's why i want to use all i can. on the bird board faq I read that 911 rear hubs can be used with the matching tub axle. I don't know if this holds true for a 74 though hoping for more insight on this
anthony
Your car will fit 7s? Usually you need some serious stretching for 7s.

geniusanthony
almost fits 7's, stretching is under way...pics will follow in the coming weeks

you'll need 914-6 stub axles. which are unobtanium and demand premium $$$ ...

there are other solutions to run real 911 hubs, do a search here, they all have been discussed numerous times before (with pictures even) ...

i'm going down the 944 axles/stubs/CVs route on my car ...

Be cautious of what your are buying. The first year of the 911 SC was 1978.

Dan your right it is an S not an SC. my mistake...I'll try that search Andy

if a real "S", that might be pretty cool...they came with (optional??) aluminum calipers with bigger pistons than the normal 911 of that year.
geniusanthony
Andy, cannot find the thread you referred to in post 8, if you could find it perhaps it could be a classic thread?

Same size pistons. Just lightweight calipers with boo-koo pad depth. One of my favorite calipers.

What's the guy doing with the tranny, engine and .....well the body????

I gotta guy that needs a 911 body with a clean registration.....
geniusanthony
body is rusted in half, the engine and trans are gone...

So, I guess theres no input about using those rear hubs or adapting brakes....Bummer
John
You can use the rear calipers, rotors and rear e-brakes (with some modifications)

You will still need 5-lug hubs and 1974 was the first year of the larger than 914 rear bearings in 911's.

Had it been a 1973, you could have possibly used the rear inner stubs and outer hubs.

If you can get the rear calipers, rotors, and e-brakes cheap enough and don't want to use them, I would be interested in them.
