I hope that is not a factory 6
Sammy
Jul 30 2006, 05:23 PM
Yup, factory 2.0, less than 50k on the clock. I think it can be fixed but it will take alot of work.

Factory 6 with 49k miles!!
He is ok.
He must be a member here... they said he wasnt a "Peilcan"
It can be fixed without 20k

Holyshit!
I am extremely glad to hear the driver (and passenger?) are O.K.
Let that serve as a testament to how strong the 914 can withstand a roll-over. I hope he is able to repair it, or at least (if he parts it out) recoupe some of the value.

That a sad sight, but on the bright side no one was hurt and it will be easer to
work on with the feet up like that.

I love how when they were re-telling the story from the car behind, one guy commented that the reason the 914 was out of sight was because the taildragger was keepin it cool. Whatever helps them sleep I guess.
Bummer about the -6. Glad the guy was ok though. Another testament to the greatness of the teener.

Just so we can try to see the good out of every bad thing, there's a lesson here for the rest of us:
The street isn't the track. things can and will go wrong. I don't have a clue about the circumstances this morning but I can tell you I have been on many of these fun runs and every single time I have seen someone do something i thought was stupid and just asking for it.
Please be careful out there and don't try to me ricky racer on the street.
This guy was probably just in the wrong place at the wrong time but driving past the common sense limit could get us the same fate or worse.
Also, this is the type of thing that brings the wrong kind of attention. If you are going anywhere near ortega in the near future (or other local canyon roads) be prepared to have law enforcemewnt all over your butt. Their job is to try and prevent nice cars from going upside down.
Maybe we can find out who's car this is and chip in to help the guy get it fixed, donate spare parts, offer technical assistance, something.

Dumb, dumb, dumb!
There's a place for this - the track! You don't jeopardize innocent lives. Happy everyone is OK, and I don't care if it was a four or six, or Mazda or Honda! Leave this stuff for the track! Don't care who was wrong or right - shouldn't happen. Period!
Goes to shoe you can't give some toys to some people. Sorry if this sounds insensitive, but I COULD HAVE BEEN ON THAT ROAD< AT THAT TIME! Dumb!

Now hold on a second, lets not hang this guy when we don't even know what happened. it was reported that there was visible oil on the road at that particular place where he spun so it could very well be that it wasn't his fault. Maybe he was taking a curve at 30 mph and all the sudden the car just spun out and there was nothing he could do about it. Hard to believe, but it is posssible. Maybe he had a tire blow out all the sudden. Might have just as easily happened to you or me. We just don't know so lets give this guy the benefit of the doubt until we hear different.
I was just sayin that bad things can happen on the street even if we don't do anything wrong and if we hot rod we are increasing the chances of things going bad.
No sense inviting bad luck by pushing the limit on the street.

I think the 911 bumped him and he went off.

And guiltless, I know I will sleep better tonight knowing I don't drive like an idiot on the street.
If someone else drives more dangerously than i am willing to do, i let them go.
Why do you have a problem with that?
This 914 vs. 911 crap is getting old. It is childish at best. 911 owners typically do not put down 914s but I can't say the same about 914 owners.
We should all knock the chips off our shoulders, stop pretending that driving through a parking lot with cones in second gear or being stupid on the street is "racing at the track", and just enjoy our cars.

I keep hearing of more and more screw ups on these runs....I now either avoid them or play "tail end charlie".....
I am worried that one day someone gets seriously hurt and turns around and sues the "organizer".....

I suggest we help the guy out and get his car repaired.

I'm up in the canyons just about every weekend. It's my therapy, I enjoy the view and smell of the hydrocarbons. I have been criticized for my sedate rate of speed, but just flash your lights and I'll let you by.
These people are starting to piss me off. Sad for the loss, of course, especially if there are injuries or worse, but $150 or so gets you a weekend at the track. Get out of my playground with your street racing.
We've had several fatalities and untold 'over the sides' up here (Mulholland) this year. Talking to a CHiPpie today near the Rock Store, they are considering putting in speed bumps. Keep it up, guys.

Did you ever hear about the SoCal BMW run where the 2 Dinan M3's were playing cat and mouse. One of them wound up off the road or rolled over, caught on fire and the poor passenger in the backseat died. Couldn't get out of the coupe fast enough. He was like 25.

Those tires look like Yokohama AVS Intermediates. If I remember right, those have not been made for a couple of years. Crusty old dried out tires will throw you off the road in a hurry.

Yep. Someone seems to ball it up every third run or so, and Ortega is particularly trecherous, with changing conditions and lots of reaallly tight off camber turns.
I've done them in the past (and some Ducati club runs, too), and *every single time* the testosterone is flowing. On unfamiliar roads with unfamiliar conditions, it's way too often a recipe for disaster. My first Ducati run was also my last. They ball it up about every third run, too.
My wife now thinks I can tell the future. When I saw the run being posted late last week, I told her "Watch, someone on sunday will post how they crashed their car."
Bummer it was a -6. As a low mile factory car, it looks repairable, though.

No, I don't think he caused this one. Saw the highlights on Dave Despain's show, what a bunch of cr_p
Glad to hear the driver's ok, the car doesn't look too bad compared to the one that Andy and team fixed a few weeks ago in San Fransisco.

That's why I don't participate in those types of events.
I'll stick to Track Events thank you very much.
I am very glad to hear that everyone is physically not hurt or dead.
Which guy in the pic is the "driver"?
