My stock rear view mirror came off yesterday. It had previously been glued to the mounting base. There is a small silver plate which the mirror has a mounting screw to attach the mirror to the base. The small silver base came out of the mount. Is epoxy glue, which is what I believe was used, the only method of attachement?
What has been found to be a reliable attachement method?
Thanks,
Larry

it's a single use two part glue that's available at Kragen, Pep Boys, FLAPS..........

I went through two applications of the cement made for rear view mirrors and the mirror fell off both times. Used JB Weld after that, mirror has yet to come off, that's been like three years.
Also, check out the resources section, somebody makes a trick rear view that mounts using the sunvisors center mount.

anyone have black adhesive, I don't want the silver metal to show?

I tried gasket adhesive and it worked better then silicon. If you can find black gasket sealer that would work well.

I ordered a 928 mirror should be here in a couple of days. Hope it works better then the 3 mirros I have tried already blink.gif

I recommend a search using the words "mirror" on this site. There is a thread strongly against using epoxy due to different expansion rates between the glue and glass. Net result is usually a round-ish crack in the windshield. I successfully attached by masking then sanding the glass surface using 600 grit, thoroughly cleaning the mating surfaces, and using the mirror attachment glue kit from FLAPS. Helps to allow a few days to dry before attaching the mirror to the base. biggrin.gif

agree.gif Using a hard glue can result in windshiel cracking. The original pad from Porsche is something similar to two way tape and is gray in color. I used some 3M permanent outdoor mounting tape, I bought it from staples.
