FYI for anyone interested.

This scan of a 1972 factory color chart...word-for-word identical to the 1973 and 1974 charts:

1. Zinc phosphatized
2. Primed
3. Dip painted (with electrical charge)
4. Sanded
5. Primed again
6. Final spray enamel paint

Possible dumb question: Does this include the 914 or only "real" Porsches?

I will bet this is just advertizing bull...

My '72 was NOT dipped in anything but moist air
Maybe they started it late '72 (model year '73)

Even then I have serious doubts...
The way the chassis is constructed, you'd have a serious problem draining all the exess paint/primer after the dip

I'll be cuttin' into my late '73 (model year '74) chassis soon and I'll let you know if I find any primer/paint in any of the cavities...

cheers,

Jeroen

That's what those drain holes are for that have the big plugs.
I am sure the 70 car I had didn't have any rust proofing, I just looked at a piece of it I still had.

Yeah, but how about the longs, or the heater mufflers inside the longs for that matter?

cheers,

"Rustproofing, we don't need any stinking rustproofing"!
