Helped a friend move his "lady friend" to her new house a few weeks back. She sent me a thank you and a nice $25 gift certificate to a new upper class restaurant. So tonight we are going to dinner (too damn hot to cook at home 99 here in Portage). They have Ostrich steaks on the menu, I never have tried it before. What does it compare to?

IIRC ostrich is a very lean red meat. Think of a lean filet mignon.

Very lean, can be stringy like flank steak. I love it and always order it if on the menu.

Very very lean. You want it as rare as possible, lest it dry out and get tough.
Good Eating, but I hate to take my eyes off a lion while I field dress one.
P.S. Always try something new.
P.P.S. In terms of restaurant menu items etc.

Fudruckers has an ostritch burger that is interesting. To me it was a little livery in flavour which was tamed with a heavy squirt of Ketchup. Tasty none the less. I eat a little on the exotic side since I eat out alot when out of town. Do it and live a little!!! Kinda like that two legged bird meat on the meat wagon!OOOOHhh nasty!!!!Enjoyyyyyyyy.
Yes and order some suds for good measure.

Leaner than Buffalo...looks like pink chicken......
My buddy was moving his to his brothers place a few years ago...one wouldn't go on the trailer...so he closed on it...bird started to "flair" (wings out, agressive stance) so he closed on it and grabbed it around the neck (they can't kick you from close in). He's hanging on the beasts neck with both arms wrapped around and hears a "Crack"....bird drops to the ground.... wave bye bye to $500
Booohooo waaaaa! Did it go on the grill?

Too bad the restaruant was out of it the other night. Since I imagine ostrich is expensive, we can try to whip up some ostrich-fried chicken at your BBQ this saturday?
Tangent - even though I've been living in Indiana for 15 years now, I still don't understand the meaning/difference of something that is "steak fried", "chicken fried", "pork fried", etc. Can someone explain this to me please? Is this just the type of lard used in the frying process? Thanks!

I had an Emu sandwich onetime in Arizona. It was really good. I guess Ostrich is like Emu since they look kinda alike being big skinny birds and all. Go for it and tell us how it goes!
