Can anyone help, I'm looking to change from 4 lug to a 5 lug setup. And not spend a arm and a leg.
Thanks for the help,
Bob

Bob,
How do you use your car?
What wheels are you looking to use?
Brakes?
This is a fairly cheap package that a buddy is sellng on ebay.
911 struts, brakes, etc...How you will use the car will drive the way to do the conversion, IMHO.

Give Jim at EASY a call (510) 653-3279
for around 700-800 he should be able to get you a complete carrera front suspension
the rear hubs you can have drilled or you can go to the extent of having all 911 parts minus the trailing arms

I did it as cheap as I could * but it was still a good chunk of change:
911 koni struts w/ hubs, 4 "A" calipers, 4 good rotors (turned) - $500
Rich Johnson rear hub machine work and studs - $180 (I think)
7"x16 and 8"x16 944turbo phonedials, nuts, caps, tires - $500
new rear bearings (Opps. forgot. Thanks Anthony) $ 80
----------
Total cost to put 5-lug conversion on the road: $1,260
All parts bought through online classifieds
*possible to do cheaper if 911 brakes not used, but what's the point.

This is not a cheap upgrade. It seems cheap at first when you find that 911 front end for $500 but then all the little bits add up especially if you do it right. Here's my parts list:
Ball joints $88
front brake pads $50
turbo tie rods $120
914/6 rotors $120
rear brake lines $30
911 carrera rotors $120
rear brake pads $50
rear 140lb. springs $100
This $700 worth of "improvements" aren't absolutely necessary. I could just slap the Carrera front suspension on but I want to do it right.
Also required:
front suspension $500+
15" Fuchs $500+
rear hubs predrilled $60
rear studs $50
alloy lug nuts $60
911 brake lines $30
rear wheel bearings $70
It's close to 2Gs when you add it all up and if you need new shocks/struts figure another $500.

Caliper rebuild kits should also be included in the list of stuff to buy.
My recommendation is to budget $1500 for everything including wheels and tires. Lose half the receipts in an unexpected garbage can fire in the garage and you might come close to your budgeted amount.

has any one ever bought the 4 lug to 5 lug auto atlanya conversion kit off ebay....
*redrilled new rotors (4)
*new front wheel bearings
*new rear wheel bearings
* 20 lugs
*20 lug nuts
with this kit, you dont have to redrill your stub axles right?
seanery
Feb 28 2003, 08:45 PM
You don't have to drill the stubs, but what rotors are you gonna use?
If its -4 stuff then every brake change requires a redrill. Major PIA if you
need it done in a hurry!

Truly a PIA...well if you redrilled your stubs or bought /6 ones, you could use 914 /6 rear rotors right? and u need 911 rear hubs right?...for the front just go to a whole 911 font setup
too much money.....well if you dont race your car and you want 5 lug wheels, you may have to redrill your rotors every few years it takes to wear out your break rotors.

Look in a "Hot VW" magazine.
Redrilled type 4 rotors to any pattern you want new - $59.00 each.
Rears, pay the money to have them drilled and studded.

Bob There is a very nice 5 lug 914 in Forest Grove Oregon, you can find it on www.collectorcartraderonline.com . Look for the 914s in Oregon, Price @$3900 its a well maintained 76.
I went the conversion route, expensive, there is always another piece that needs to be replaced or while we are here lets go ahead and put on a new........
