I've been trying to find classic car ins that'll work for how I want to use my car and I'm striking out. I really want to be able to drive it to work on occasion and that's stricly prohibited by every ins co I've tried.

I checked with my regular ins co (Allstate) and they will provide a normal policy and insure it to the "appraised value" with no restrictions.

I don't know of anyone in my area that would be able to appraise my car accurately, does anyone here have the credentials to do so???? Can it be done via pics???

The car is '74 3.6 conversion that I feel I have done properly for a street machine. It's about 2 weeks from driveable. (I feel it's 1 week, so I doubled the estimate!)

Howard.....maybe???

i use hagerty. sent them pics and we came to an agreed value over the phone.

I treid Hagerty, but they strictly prohibit any driving to from work.

yup, Hagerty is good for fun runs, to and from events, etc...but not for grocery or work.

I tried to stay with the company that carriers both my "normal" vehicles. They suggested getting the appraisel from a local Porsche dealer....

stop by a dealer, they wouldn't appraise because of liability..didn't want to be held accountable for value if something did happen....whatever....

...so ended up with Hagerty. Not too much desire to drive on Route 80 during rush hour anyway...not really driving, just sitting in traffic watching construction.

You might consider calling Brad Mayeur and ask if he could possibly do it based on current photos sent to him. His contact info is below:

JD,

All good suggestions in this thread for coming up with information to support a value. However, I believe that you would be best suited to have this done by a certified appraiser. Collect as much supporting information that you can, and provide it to the appraiser when they show up.

I would call your Allstate rep and ask who they use for appraisals. This way, the credibility of the appraiser has already been validated by your insurance company.

I don't think there is a certification for an auto appraiser....there IS a guy here in town that does it but he has no licenses or whatever besides being an auto CW and judge.....

You might try a Yacht/Boat appraiser....THOSE guys are Coast Guard licenesed and he/she may dabble in autos......

Be advsied....insurance companies are STATE regulated and one thing that works or is accepted in CA or FL may not be doable in NJ.....

Who better to appraise the value of a 914 than someone who has worked on these cars since Porsche introduced them in 1970. Brad was a certified Porsche mechanic and knows these cars inside and out. He has done complete restorations and 6-liter conversions and his work is always top notch.

Thanks for the repsonses!

I did ask my insurance agent if they had anyone they worked with and they did not, so I'm kind of on my own to get an appraiser. I'm figuring somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 to 30K would be fair, I know I have more than that into it. I don't want to be unreasonable on the value, I just don't want to have an accident and get a check for 3500 Bucks!

I guess I'll try to find a certified appraiser in my area and I'll give Brad a call and see if he can do something remote.
