I was under the impression that to install a 3.0 with CIS required some cutting of the trunk wall to fit? I checked the classic FAQ and it only indicated this was needed for the newer 3.6 engine.
If cutting is required
what other options are available?

I am pretty sure that the CIS boot..or whatever the thing is called hits the trunk....But I dont think you have to cut the trunk...I think you can shave the fins off the boot.

Folks say, it's all in the engine mounts you use. Not sure I could say rightly !
There was no shaving required.

This is a myth that just won't die.
The ribbed snorkel on the top MAY hit the engine lid, though you can usually mount the engine a bit lower to clear it. You will have to remove the lid latch, and either reposition it off to the side, or just use hood pins, or just remove the lid springs and make the lid easily removable (and use hood pins).
The rear trunk springs will have to go, so you'll need to do a gas spring conversion or the like. There's not a lot of clearance with the rear trunk, but there's enough.
If you move some items that CAN be moved, like the decel valve, there's a bit more room, and you may even be able to retrain your trunk springs.

I happily stand corrected on the trunk springs, too. They were one on the 2.4-engined car I used to have, and it looked like there wasn't enough room for them, but it looks like there's just barely enough room, even with the cold start valve.

Thanks guys - you're great.
That's one of the last items I needed to clear up before deciding.
Enjoy!

Could you elaborate more on what you did. What engine mount did you use? I've always been really intersted in your method as I think that is the only 3.0 CIS I have seen that hasn't been cut in some way.

Check with Steve Peters from B.C. also.
He just finished 'The Harlot' and he installed a 3.0 CIS without cutting.
