Hi,

I lost all my 914 bookmarks! It has happened before. I had them linked
under one group, and the whole group disappeared.

Where do they go? How do they disappear like this? Can I get them back?
Is there any way to get them to stay in one place? They like to move around
on me.

Sorry, I do not like the other browsers, so don't tell me to use Firefox!!

Thanks,

Jeff

Search you c: drive for "favorites"
zen motorcycle
In windows bookmarks are located in
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Favorites

If they are missing then a couple of things can be possible.
1. Accedentally moved or dragged and dropped
2. Antivirus program
3. Spyware/Malware or other such things can do interenting things to IE.
4. Virus/Trojan

I would look at the top 3 as the most likely and number 4 only if you aren't running #2.

I don't know your habits so only guessing here

Yup, agree with John.

Don't worry yet, you should be able to get them back.

C:\Documents and Settings\[YourProfileName]\Favorites

Okay, found them! They slipped down a couple of levels in another
subdirectory. I thought I had looked there before, but I guess I did it wrong!

Now, can I lock them in place? It is too easy to move them by accident.

Thanks for the help!

You can with permissions, but it would make it hard to add new favorites.

I would just be careful and just remember for next time.

Might make a backup and save that somewhere too

Why are you moving stuff around? If you are moving folders carelessly enough to lose your bookmarks, or you are accidently losing stuff because you don't know why it slipped a couple levels down, maybe there's a better way to manage things? poke.gif tongue.gif

On some machines I copy the favorites to a folder under "my documents" and edit the registry to point IE there. Kind of anal, but the point is to make sure EVERYTHING I need to back up is under a single folder / tree.

Yeah, you are right. I do get careless once in a while. But I do not intentionally
move the bookmarks. It is just that I sometimes holddown th mouse I guess
after I select an item anddrag it off to parts unknown!

I donot have full use of my right (mouse) hand sometimes, as I had a stroke. I can't type too well either dry.gif ! Notice the Subject: line!

As long as I can find them, I'll suffer.

Thanks!

If you want the list of favorites to be consistent do this. Click on “Favorites” then right click and choose "sort by name" and all of the folders and links will be in alphabetical order. This works well if you add a new folder to your favorites since IE will just put the new folder on the bottom of the list.

None taken, or I wouldn't be here....
I can still lift 12 ounces, and shift the car!!

I DO slam my hand in a drawer sometimes, but that's a personal problem. Other
than that, I am semi-normal boldblue.gif

Appreciate everybody's help!

Rand - can you give details on your registry hack to relocate the IE Favorites folder?
