WTF.gif Seeking member or contact who can speak/translate German and will write letters and/or telephone former German owners of my m-471 GT 9140430919 in order to develop the car's history & construction;

3 of the people are in Stuttgart area & I have addresses but have been unsuccessful in writing to them in English. I have the original Kraftfahrzuegbrief and several letters from Porsche AG. Contact with a Germany 914 club member in Stuttgart area would be a plus.

One of the contacts was a Strahle technician when they were racing their GT, and knows this car; he is also purported to have been assigned by Porsche to the Brumos Team and his stories mightClick to view attachment be of interest to us all.

I will pay expenses & time.

PM Gustl, he's in austria, but he knows all the german 914 guys very well. plus, he's really into the history of the GT's and he's got an extensive database and lots of contact info ...

this car is listed at Armando's pages as well as on Glenn's registry as a non factory built GT

same info from the German Porsche 914-6 Club - their info says that it possibly was light green metallic at first

AFAIK the guys from the Geman 914-6 club know almost every GT owner from Germany in person, it could be a benefit to get you in touch with them?

just let me know what I could do for you

Thanks for the offer of assistance.

Andy has seeen the car (Reno Wramble 2002)

I cannot read the German 914 club page nor post to it, so I would be most appreciative of help in contacting one of their members who can translate, post some queries, and find someone do some in-person interviews.

All the info on Armando's & Glenn's pages is as originally provided by me, with help of Ulrich Trispel (of Bielefeld, Germany) about 10 yrs ago. Another GT - 471 info site is http://wsrp.wz.cz/chassis/chassis_porsche_914.html

According to Porsche the car was originally 'lemon' color, and a second letter says 'canary yellow'. It appears that it may have been completely stripped at the time of the m471 conversion.

At this point I believe the car was converted in 1972 by Wolfgang Dworazik, purportedly a Porsche employee at the time.

It was a perfect job with all the 'correct' "factory" 471 & competition mods, so it was clearly done by someone with substantial financial means, and for some purpose other than to look pretty.

Dworazik ran it in ADAC Spezial GT Klasse - ADAC-Automobil-Slalom-Oberderdingen (Nr. 249), 22 Mai 1972; Int. ADAC-Wasenring-Slalom (Nr. 368) Stutttgart 25 Juni 1972;

there may be other events in which the car was used by Dworazik, Kutschera, Riefler, and Frank

It also has apparently-oem 916 front & rear 'bumpers' & flared steel rocker panels. These would not have been over-the-counter parts back then, and I can assure you that they are not american aftermarket pieces, as they were on the car when purchased in 1974 in Germany by my brother.

Dworazik has an Autoservice in Stuttgart. (Wolfgang Dworazik Autoservice Stotzr. 8, D-70190, Stuttgart)

My interest is in learning more about the construction & purposes, and about the people involved with the car. A car is only as important as the stories and dreams of the people who owned, used & built it.

and the quality is poor at best ... it *might* help you to get an general idea on what a certain paragraph is about, but especially technical/automotive terms will not translate correctly as well as any sort of sensemaking arrangement of words in a sentence.

german is, in structure, way too different from english to be translated "by word" ...

been there, tried that, doesn't work ...

i have seen 100s of Fahrzeugbriefe and i know what all the special terms mean.

i seriously doubt google can beat that ...

i sure have ... still remember the sweet sound of that /6 ... wub.gif

the car certainly looked like it had been "used", and i mean that in a good way.
all the right parts in the right places ...

i didn't know the 916 bumpers were originals, otherwise i would have touched them ...

I'd be happy to contribute my part to the discovery of a race cars history!

On the first view it seems to be the best way to contact Ulrich Tripsel for help again. I don't know him, but I've heared a lot about him. On the one hand he's a well known Porsche specialist - especially for historic research - on the other hand he knows lots of other Porsche guys with heavy load of knowledge. And - AFAIK - he's the benefit that he knows english!
I only know one single guy who's familiar with all the 914-6 racing cars, but unfortunately he doesn't know english. And as I found out at other topics, it's not really easy for me to translate all the mails in both directions. There happend much of misunderstanding.

But, of course, I'll ask my german friend if he could find out anything about the history of your car. As I know he's often in contact with Ulrich Tripsel.
So let's see if we could find out more.

yes, there was a Personal Porches story in Panorama, July 1982;

David was Army chopper pilot stationed near Stuttgart when he got the car; died in a Bell 47 accident in Jan 81; he was buddy with Karl Hloch, then at Strahle KG, who purportedly was assigned as Porsche tech to the Brumos 914-6 Team. Karl found the car for David & told him 'this is a very special car'.

Ulrich says Karl is a well known 4-cam engine builder in Stuttgart area; 914-6 guys in Germany might find his experiences worth documenting & sharing

I too have tried the translation software & it is no good for much other than single words with generic meanings, and even then one must know the context & connotations that only truly-German car-guys understand;

I am again in contact with Ulrich who reports that he is soon going to the Nurburgring Oldtimers races and will try to find some contacts

I appreciate all the interst & offfers of help. I'll contact several of you privately; since I work in the south Bay Area, it looks like I need to drive to Oakland & buy SirAndy dinner & bring my portfolio

fyi, the car will be at Ventura Show (it's a 6-8 hour drive for me); 2 weeks ago it was at Hot August Nights & last week was at the Auburn Cruise Night;

I really enjoy sharing the stories of other's cars & experiences that always come out at these events; it is gratifying to hear how many guys & gals have 914's in some stage of project, and the number who "had one once" (usually in college days) & "wish they had it again"
