I like it. biggrin.gif

On you it would look good. On your car - daring smile.gif

Without wanting to get into the fashion side of it I wonder how well wool would work as a seat material in a car?
Matt Meyer
That is hideous.

Just kidding. I just got 3 yards of "MacLeod of Lewis" for my seats last week. My wife got it for me for our anniversary.

I liked Barclay Dress better but don't tell my wife that. It looked pretty close to a plaid available in 1976.

I got mine from the Scottish Weaver but I think they all come from the same mills. I think you have a better price. I'll check tonight.

I like it... don't forget to make two full sets. Let me know when you need me to drop off my seats. I mean, if they're gonna be twins.. they might as be twins all the way... smile.gif Thanks you're the best.

What color is your tub ? Perhaps you can use the fabric on a spare set of seats, in case you want to switch back . . .
So.Cal.914
It will look good, I wonder if you can have another synthetic material added to

the back by the guy that does your seats to keep the tartan from stretching as

much so it dosen't rip.

I doan like it at all, but iffn you decide to go fer it, can I have yer old seat covers?

I love it, but like a few others, I am wondering how well it will hold up. I am jonesing to redo my blue tartan seats and the original fabric almost seems like burlap. I also like the courdoroy seats, but finding upholstery-grade material will probably be similarly difficult.

Sammy, you can have the old ones. One bottom cushion has 5 large holes, and the other has a slit down the middle. poke.gif

Thanks guys for all of your replys! thumb3d.gif

Lou,
I saw the pic on another thread that originally got me started thinking about doing my seats that way.

I want that center consol! drooley.gif

Now you've REALLY gotta wonder how well they hold up. Notice in Lou's pic that the seat bottom is still covered in plastic?

How well will wool hold up?

First- I'm pretty sure wool was what the original fabric used for the plaid inserts on the 914.

Second- Wool is a premium fabric known for its good wear characteristics. It should hold up pretty well, better than most fabrics and best of the natural fabrics. I talked with upholsters. It was and still is used in high end vehicles.

I doubt it will hold up as well as an automotive vinyl or leather though. But it wont sizzle your assets on a hot day either. And Toast always protect your assets

My original plaid insert had been recovered long before I purchased the car (and the drivers side needed it). The inserts on the other car look good. It is the covering on the seat shell that is splitting but the inserts are not worn through.. So I would conclude the vinyl will last a lot longer (or that my second set of seats have been recovered).

From my research I concluded: You either need to go with a very high weight and high dollar wool fabric. Or as Porsche did originally, go with a lighter weight wool and a thin layer of batting with another material for support (traditionally burlap).

I plan to pull the seats this weekend so my upholsterer can start disassembling them to make a pattern. I will try and get some pictures.

Thanks for the opinions and research guys. Going to have my mom recover them for me. I'm just doing the cusions right now. I would love to get the vinyl on my seats redone because I have some tears that are eye sores. But that will be with the next lottery winning. rolleyes.gif
