I knew this car would get me in trouble. To make a long story really short. I got a ticket doing 40 over. Now begs the question. Do I keep the car and pay outragious insurance or sell the damn thing? (which I can't really afford in the first place). Boy it costs a lot for 3 seconds of fun.

1. Plate your ride as an antique or classic car for occasional use ONLY and insure as such
2. Get a caravan for DD purposes
3. Take a defensive drivers class to get 5+ points back on your record
4. Hambone all the Swedish/Asian drippin hot momas after a ride in your 914 and them a caravan drive in the country!
5. Get married, its a shure INS. dropper "Don't forget an iron clad prenupt!!!!"
6. repeat all the above steps until successful!!!!

You must keep your 914 driving privaliges intact no matter the cost!!!

We don't know your record but if you have not used the traffic school card...use it.

I'd say disconnect your speedo and take it to the local garage and have it fixed. Then plead faulty equipment, but 100 mph might be hard to pass off......

If your gonna break the law that much make sure you have enough under the hood to outrun them. I know plenty of people that outrun the cops all the time. I don't think I have the guts but if I was doing 120+ I probably would.

I will second the slow daily driver. Driving fast cars day in and day out is a sure fire way to get your ass landed in jail.

Wow, that's really good advice , maybe you can do it in Canada where Cops are wusses (sp?) but hell I drive tight assed when ever I'm in the US. I think you need a whole bunch under the hood to outrun an Interceptor, plus all those stupid car chases you see on TV, how do they mostly end???

I am the first to admit that I went way over the speed limit on certain occasions, but I think the concensus is to go at a track where it's safe to do those kind of things.

The car is insured and titled as a historical vehicle. I drive a HHR everyday. I was just kinda freakin out, i don't think insurance will go up too much for that car but the HHR it would go up since I have normal insurnce on that one. ohh and I currently have no points, soon to be 4.

Your best bet is to hire a lawyer, and have him try to get it reduced. If your prior record is not too bad, a good lawyer can almost always find a way to save your ass ONCE. I am a criminal/traffic attorney, and I have gotten guys slack for exactly what you did many many times. In most cases, it is reasonably easy to sell a prosecutor on the idea that you gave in to temptation to see what your car could do ONE time. I trust you are picking up on the ONE time theme here. If your history is otherwise not too good, it will be a much harder/impossible sell.

An attorney will probably cost you a few hundred bucks, but you will recoup that in one year vs. your rate increase if you get nicked for a "40 over" on your abstract.

I don't know the specifics of Michigan, but in Indiana if you want to take it to traffic court, on the back of the ticket is instructions for mailing in a "not guilty" plea. You are then sent a court date. Do not miss the court date.

So you go to traffic court - many times the officer will not show up, in which case your ticket is thrown out. No fine, no points. However if he is there, you have the option to go in front of the judge and make your case or else just say "aww shucks, ya got me" and then go to the cashier and pay your fine.

I give you this advice because I _suspect_ MI works the same way. I was cited for "unsafe operation of a personal watercraft" in Michigan (Burt Lake) a few years ago. It was labor day weekend, and a rent-a-sherrif on a jetski mistook me for being part of a different group that actually were being dangerous jackasses. I tried to be polite and explain his misperception, but the guy probably had a quota to fill, so I protested his decision to his face. Called up the county offices after I got back home and they said if I wanted to plea not-guilty, it would involve me driving back up there to appear in court. Else pay the $95 and STFU. So I paid and shut up

If it was your first ticket, it may not impact your insurance rates at all...

Go to traffic school and it wont affect your score.

Then move to California where the traffic is so bad that you cant even go the speed limit, much less over it. Unless you are SLITS, then somehow you will manage to get a speeding ticket at every major 914 event.

Of course, that would raise your insurance 400%.
