quick overview ... leo imperial is putting a 2073 (1.8 heads) in his car. i'm putting his 2.0 in my car. we need to know if his 2.0 h.e's will fit on the 1.8 heads on his new engine or will my h.e.'s (off my 1.7) fit on his 1.8. also will his 2.0 muffler fit on the 1.7 h.e.s. phwew thanks

They are all swapable as long as you keep the components together

1.) 1.7 / 1.8 HEs with 1.7/1.8 muffler hanger and 1.7/1.8 muffler

2.) 2.0 HEs with 2.0 muffler hangerand 2.0 muffler

so the size of the head doesn't matter? my first wife always said it did.

It only matters (in this case) for the exhaust gaskets between the exchangers and the heads.

Oh, the 75-76 cars all used the same exhaust as each other, and it was very different from the 1.7 or 2.0 systems. Everything still bolts up as a unit, but the parts are quite different.

We had a thread a few months back with pictures of all three types...
