I am looking for the foam padding to put around my roll bar. Any advice on what works best, where to get it and how to fasten it to the bar? I assume some sort of black vinyl tape will work best. Do you get the tape at an autoparts store?

Thanks.

NOT hardware store.
2 reasons:

first, the racing type is of high density and designed to compress more as its hit. It provides a tiny bit of extra safety and is required by all sanctioning bodies

second, most sanctioning bodies now require sfi ratings on the roll bar foam. This may not be true for some drivers education type stuff, but I believe it to now be true for all wheel to wheel events.

even if you are just using it on the street... seems like the extra fire protection is not a bad thing. sure wouldn't want melted plastic burning you in the event of something going wrong.

the race stuff is pricey.. but so it a medical expense or skin graph.

I got mine at the race shop at the track. Fasten with zip ties.
No stickum or peeling from heat/cold cycling or direct sun light exposure.
