I'm tired of sitting on a couple of ideas to improve internal combustion processes.

So what I'm looking for is a:
Single cylinder 4-cycle engine, preferrable air cooled for simplicity.
Low tech carb/intake or just an intake manifold.
No need for gas tank.
Between 3 and 8 HP.
Electric start.
Points or electronic ignition.

And the clincher, hopefully an externally adjustable timing mechanism. Even better if it can be done while running.

All I can find, so far, are go cart type engines and none of them have the adjustable timing option. They do have electric starters though.

Is such an engine out there already?

All of your thoughts are greatly appreciated. beerchug.gif

What are you buildong now?

You already have a furry surfboard cart.

What could top that?

Good point, but...

I can top that. =-)

I have this idea and everywhere I look someone's telling my why I can't do it.

So I'm going to do it. 'Effers. bootyshake.gif

I'm sure there's a way to rig up variable timing on a briggs and stratton. The trickier part would be finding one that has overhead valves. Any experimentation you do on a flathead is likely to be non-applicable to modern engines.

Have you made a mini dyno yet? smile.gif

crank fire EFI LOL

you could batchfire Megasquirt and adjust the timing i would think
Dr. Roger
I like the idea of an external adjustment. manual is good but electronic would be even better. megasquirt would be pretry cool too

and fuel injection+ spark. smile.gif

I cannot find the link right now, but there is some guy on a mustang club site that is using Megasquirt AND a turbo on his 5HP Briggs and Stratton...needless to say, it won't be 5Hp anymore smile.gif

You can't do it. wink.gif
nya nya, I was the first here. to say it.

Nowadays you can do just about any kind of R&D with computer modeling, iffn you're into that kind of thing. I'm usually not.
