Currently I am running original 14" Fuchs on a 914/6 (205/60/14). I want to run 16" rims to get a lower profile on the sidewall and I am trying to get more tire to the road. I drove at my first autocross this year and found that if I hit the gas hard out of corners I would spin the tires and have to backoff let them grab and slowly give it gas. I know my driving skills need ALOT of work but I also want to get the HP to the pavement.

I do not want to stretch or even roll the rear fenders on the car. I have 4-16" x 6" fuchs and 2-16" x 7" rims. I am thinking that a good solution is to have the rear rims converted (made) to 7" rims like the ones Jim Wolcott did on his 3.6L /6 (Excellence October 2006) but leaving the fronts as standard 16" x 6". I am thinking 205's up front and 225"s in the rear.

What problems can you see with this solution? Will they fit without rolling the rear fender lips? What kind of issues will I have by not running all 4 rims the same (6" wide up front and 7" wide in the back)? Does going with taller rims make a big difference on the weight thus making a problem for the brakes?

here is a pic of my 914-6 with 6 & 7 x16s
you will need to roll/pull the rear fenders a bit unless your car is really square.
also depends on how much negative camber you run in the rear.

225 will not fit unless you give them fenders a nice rolling ...

use our tire-size calculator to figure out how much your speed will be off ...

Adding an extra inch to the rear of a 16x6 will essentially give you a 16inch wheel with the dimensions or a 15x7R wheel. I believe someone here tried running 7R wheels with 205 tires, and the tires hit the inner fender well.

I thought about custom Fuchs, but ended up with 16x6's and 205/50's all around:

yep.. 911 R rims still require a spacer...

6's are a sure thing with 205's...

i ran 15x6 with 205/50's for a few years...

15x7's with 205/50 required a slight roll in the rear...(cookies)

15x8's with 225's required a flare/stretch...

7's will fit in front... but 6's are the biggest you can fit without modding the rear fender

AARON you indicate 7"s fit up front. Is this a stand 15 x 7 or "R" spec? what tire size. I assume 205 work, will arger fit? On the rears, the consensus appears to be "R"s fit with a spacer. Do you know the max tire size with a perfectly fitteed R while doing only a very minor roll of the fender? Also, I have caught a comment that investing in 15 x 7 r type wheels is foolish because good tires in 15" are not going to be available in the near future. Everything is going to larger diameters.and availability will be a problem. Any thoughts?

I run 17x7s 205-50-17s all the way around, no rubbing.

What is the offset of your 17x7? Aaron has his info right.

If you run a 7" wheel with too high an offset in the front, and you still have the
shock 'covers', it will interfere. With 7" 40mm offset, using wide 205 'R' tire, I
have like 1/4" of room in there.

Wheels are boxter s alloys, 17x7 52 ET with 1 inch spacers, so I guess that makes it ET 27.5
