I am thinking about going back to original, but I don't know what original is. She's a '72 1.7 with the appearance package. Would that be the steelies or did something else come with the appearance package?

Any help will be appreciated.

Mine came with Pedrinis.. but I traded them for fuchs.

The Concours Forum is bursting w/info about originality, but I'd venture to say Fuchs or Pedrinis would be accurate. The Concours Forum Moderator had his '72 1.7 delivered w/steelies.

Take a look over at the Concours Forum for some specs on how the 914 looked as-delivered.

Fuchs were, in theory, only on the 73+ cars. But there are a few out there without the machining to fit the 73+ front hubs...

Pedrinis were available from 71, IIRC. Steelies were always available.

The Concours mod, Pat Garvey, has told me ten million times that his '72 came w/Fuchs, but he had the dealer replace them w/steelies.
