I just made an engine cradle for my engine stand to hang my 1.7.
I have made them for chevy big blocks and had no trouble but the end of my 1.7 looks a little flimsy to hang the whole thing on the 4 bolts.
Has anyone ever done this?
I haven't seen them on the web or in cataloges so I just had to wing it.
6 hours later I am ready to mount but need to know if the end of the engine will sustain the weight of the whole engine.

The engine will be fine.
Mine only goes to the two top bolts and works fine.

Just watch the welds, and the tubing, if it holds you will be fine.

The ring was made from a solid plate and cut to size on a lathe. A spigot was cut on the inside to match the one on the engine.
The tubing isn't tubing. It's 7/8" solid stock.
The pipe on the end is sch 160 seamless pipe, good for about 25,000 PSI.
I don't think those parts will fail.

I made mine out of 1/8 plate steel.
Cut the ring
Cut triangles to attach the ring to the tube
Welded the triangles to the tube and the other ends to the ring.

It holds, I was not sure, but it holds fine, besides, when you strip the motor, you have to take it off to split the case anyways...
or just hold it from the two bolts that are on one side of the case...

You can do this? blink.gif w00t.gif

Total overkill bud, plus it should only be a half (2 bolts) so that you can split the case.

Yep. I think you can hold up the engine with yours - with the rest of the car attached! Nice work, though...

P.S. You can't split the case unless you only mount one case half.

I type too slow...

I do, only after I take off the tin, all the way to the heads and P/c's, then you have to, or you have to take it off the stand entirely to split the case....
I just get it as light as possible and then go to the two bolts on one side.

My stand has 2 arms- 2 bolts and will hold the whole engine, shroud, FI gear...everything, no problem.

Has an T1 or T4 engine at some point of assembly on it 24/7.

I modeled mine after the Porsche style one. Wasn't sure about flipping it from side to side and upside down so I went all the way around. w00t.gif

it will be fine, mine is much more flimsy.

Go for it
