A friend of mine is having trouble with his 2001 Chevy Cavalier and asked me if I could help him locate an owner's manual online. I Googled around a bit with no success. I was hoping that our exhaustive knowledge of car stuff here might help me to help him locate a downloadable (preferably free) owner's manual.

I've never seen any online. I do have one for 1973 that I'd sell though.

How much time did you spend looking? I found one in under a minute. As always, Google is your friend. BTW, since the manufacturers make money off these, they're not likely to ever be available online for downloading, at least not legally.
Google "automotive owner's manuals", select the first one that comes up, click on "view our inventory", type in "chevrolet cavalier" in the box in the upper left, there you are. Three of 'em in stock.
