The 356 engine was adapted to a lot of purposes. There were lots of industrial engines also.

I think I would be afraid to fly that thing out of ground effect. Dunkel Bros. used to have one of those or one like it in their museum. Counter rotating rotor blades elliminates the need for torque pedals. Killer machine!!
