There is a local guy here in Sacramento who is an experienced race driver and owns several historic race cars. He recently balled up his Carrera GT as well. His story is that the car suddenly went unsteerable. Something in the suspension broke according to him. It is apparently credible enough that Porsche came and got the car and shipped it back to Germany for examination.
As far as I know, there are only three in the Sacramento area. One belongs to a good friend. (his is fine and he is actually a 914 guy. Owns two sixes and a four) The second is as described above. The third belongs to a restaurant owner. Popular sushi place close to my house. This guy qualifies for the "low performance driver in a high performance car" comment. He took the car out to Sacramento Dragway and according to witnesses exploded the clutch and half shafts. OUCH!!!
The thing is a guy like the restaurant owner will have the car taken to the Porsche dealership and with a straight face demand that they repair it under warranty. More than likely... they will.
Looking at the pictures here I see now visible attempt to brake.
