I am working on my 914 tail lights and have disconnected them with out labeling which connector goes were so I need HELP...
Where can I get a detailed wiring diagram of the tail light section? I have a Haynes manual but the diagrams in there are all black and white with no wire color symbols beside the wire.
All the ones I have found are either like that or too small to decipher which wire goes were.
Any help is greatly appreiciated.

The Haynes Manual does have wire colors, you just have to follow the wire track until you find it...

Alternatively, get yourself a test light (looks like an ice pick) from FLAPS and hook the aligator clip to ground and the ice pick end to the wires one at a time...Turn on head lights, or turnsignals, or back-up light or stop light, etc...ONE AT A TIME...Until process of elimination takes over...Start on one side and follow the wire color code for the other side...

Turn signals should be the large outside lamp on the fixture, Headlights and Stop lights is the inside blub in the fixture, Back-up light is the closest to the trunk lock...You just have to test them out one at a time...

OK, I just worked on mine this week...

Here's the wiring from my car, a '74:

Left side - driver side
row 1 (inside to outside)
(2) BR - ground
(1) BK/WH - turn signal

row 2 (inside to outside)
(2) WH/BR - back up
(2) BK/YW - stop
(1) WH/BK - side marker

Right side - passenger
row 1 (inside to outside)
(2) BR - ground
(1) BK/GR - turn signal

row 2 (inside to outside)
(1) WH/BR - back up
(1) BK/YW - stop
(1) WH/RD - side marker

Thanks Scott and Rob. That's perfect.

BTW, I still haven't heard from Bruce either.

Now I really need the parts to put the car back together... sad.gif
