When I'm faced with that kind of problem, I usually go to my parts stash, or my FLAPS, or my local hardware store, or my local metric specialty shop (starting to stretch the definition of "local" there) with one of the identical fasteners in hand. I either search myself for something that matches, or I hand it to the counter-guy and say "I need one [two, ten, ??] just like this."

Generally works pretty well.
