This sounds tragic & by the lean of the right rear corner I'd hate to look & see how bad. However, she's an LE & should be saved.

Looks like bad rear shocks ( or lowerd in the rear only )+ funky camera angles to me. If you look at the drivers side pic it looks just as low. BUT he never mentions the floors condition huh.gif

That car has great potential from the photos. The interior looks like it is in great shape. That will go to a good owner for sure.

This car is close to me if anyone wants me to go take a look.

Unless that is some kind of "reverse-psychology" sales approach, the ad seems completely forthcoming and the seller knowledgable.

agree.gif The guy is so honest you can feel his pain. Still, a numbers matching car- I really hope someone saves her & wish I could. cool_shades.gif

Well, I did it. I went out to the hanger today and removed both rocker panels. They not only had the factory yellow on the back side, but the longitudinals were perfect, no rust what so ever. I proceeded to remove the front and rear bumpers and valances. The valances had factory yellow on the back side and the panels behind were again, extremely nice... not rust. I crawled all over this car. There is no rust in the front trunk. Only surface rust in the rear. A previous owner had drilled five 1/6" holes along the back edge of the trunk floor and because the water could drain out, there is no rust other than surface. It is apparent that the previous owner partially painted the floor of the trunk front and rear over the years. Below the paint is solid metal through out both trunks. There is no rust what so ever on the bottom of the doors or the sills inside the doors. I removed the carpet from the floor of the interior, there is no rust on the pan, it is excellent. These are all very very good things.

Now let me tell you what the car needs. The interor needs cleaning, carpet, and tender loving car. Both seats have tears as stated previously. I drove the car again and it is strong and runs well. The body panels have imperfections both in the current paint and under the current paint but are solid. I can say with strong belief, this car has never been hit, ever. All original panels.

The worst thing about this car is the battery tray and hell hole. They both need to be replaced. There is no damage to the rear trailing arm. If you fixed this area, and treated the light surface rust in the trunk (and I'll say it again, it is only surface rust) you would have a solid, rust free car. This car is more rust free than most all of the seven 914's I've owned in the past. I am shocked, mostly because I thought it was this good but "read this book by it's cover" and did not take the time to investigate what I really had.

I have to tell you, if I were looking for a car to restore, this would be the one, it's that good. And quite honestly, I'm going to see how this auction goes and might just decide to keep it.

I know this is a real flip from my original post. I was dissapointed in the exterior of the car. But like I told my friend, if I had to choose between a great looking exterior with a not so rust free car versus a extremely rust free car and a not so great exterior, I'd take this one in a minute. Restoring a rusted car is a lot more work that restoring a car that is extremely solid and just needs cosmetics...I guess that's what this comes down to, this car is extremely solid and other than the battery tray area, just needs cosmetics.

If I had the cash I would be all over that car. Good luck with the sale. I hope a club member gets it. smile.gif

Surface rust only. No scaling. Previous owner partially painted floor over the years to prevent rust. Trunk has five 1/16" micro holes drilled. Below the paint and surface rust is 100% solid metal.

This is the bad... battery tray and hell hole sheet metal. There is absolutely no damage to the rear trailing arm or suspension console. This car has never been hit. All 100% original panels. No rust other than this area. (Note the missing insulation pad... the brown on the firewall is not rust, it's dried on insulation and glue)

To be honest... I'm thinking about keeping it...I am surprised and shocked as to how rust free this car is. I think I've learned a lesson.

I'd keep it if I were you. That hell hole / engine shelf sheet metal is cheap. Maybe $250 total for all the sheet metal.
