If I need something unusual I go to Parkers Nuts and bolts in Palmdale on Palmdale Blv, if its a common metric or std but a high grade its Lowes (or Home Depot) if its whatever then its all about Harbor Freight!

Bolts, nuts and info. Charts and conversions.
American standard, Metric and all others too.
Recommend as a bookmark whether you buy there or not.

You don't need that much stuff to be pretty prepared for a 914. Most of the car is 6mm X 1mm and 8mm x 1.25mm, the standard thread pitches. I have 3 lengths of 8mm bolts, 4 lengths of 6mm bolts, flat washers, wave washers, lock washers, nylocs and standard nuts of each size, 2 lengths of 6mm phillips head screws, some VW fan shroud style screws, a couple of types of trim screws. All of this stuff I bought in boxes of 100, mostly it was 3-5 bucks a box. I also keep a bit of 10mm stuff, a similar assortment as above, but only 25 at a time. I got it from Wurth and from the local nut & bolt route driver dude. If you call a couple of shops they'll tell you who the nut & bolt guy is, mine will come to my house if I'm buying more than $20.00 worth of stuff.
Also, I keep a pretty good assortment of wire and terminals, 100 at a time for the common stuff, 25 at a time for the wierder stuff.
Also, If I do have to go to the hardware store, if I need 2 I buy 6 or 8.

The first one has without doubt the best selection. Many hard to find fasteners.
I always buy in box quanity when I can.
