Driving around yesterday enjoying heat from both heat exchangers for the first
time, maybe 70 miles. Then in the evening went out for a quick blast. 15 miles
in, had been running in 4th (more heat that way) shifted to what HAD been
5th, felt a bit odd, let clutch out, nothing there, had a heck of a time getting it
out of what had been 5th. Drove most of the way home in 4th, tried 5th,
same thing, felt strange going "in", no odd noise, but no drive. VERY hard
to get out, took force. Rest of gears felt fine, no slop, but no way was I gonna
try it again and have to walk home.

Side shifter, Rennshifter, new firewall bushing, no idea what shape the
back bushing and cup are in cause I haven't had problems, and it was
30 degrees in the garage when I got home so I parked it and ran.

The gates on the Rennshifter felt the same, but I dinna do much else by way
of diags......

Any ideas what I broke this time?

I repaired Jim's tranny this summer with the same problem. Sloppy console gates due to wear and a worn shifter arm for 4th/5th. His tranny had been recently rebuilt but they didn't replace those worn parts. Also the shift arms have to be adjusted correctly or you can slide into "nothing". sad.gif

Why yes, Mike, I do believe I can fit it into my schedule.
I spent a couple hours going through the house,
the yard, the sheds and the garage trying to find my
hitch (normally just use the gooseneck) only to find it
the next day under a collapsed stack of old magazines.

I am pretty much open, let me know a time, especially
as I won't be swapping out a tranny that day. pray.gif

Saturday works better due to the superbowl on Sunday unless you made it before noon, (I'm not a big football fan, it's just an excuse to eat a bunch of crap I normally wouldn't eat )

IF the trans was recently apart, and the shift forks readjusted, then it is probable that the 4th/5th shift rod was misadjusted. The book says 3mm for the 4/5 rod,and 1mm for the R/1 rod. If the 4/5 rod is set to 3mm, it will have this problem. It is caused by the 30+ year old intermediate plate wearing, and making the hole for the shift rod too big. The fix is to set it to the same spec as the R/1 rod.

BTDT... bought the T-shirt.

Hope it helps.
