Last time I was there, Zim's had some CV's that were VW parts machined to work on 914's (similar to what some members here are working on).

Not sure if these are what you spoke to them about about.

yes the 914 cv joints have been discontinued which is another irritation in the continuing story of discontinued 914 parts. However most suppliers are selling quality rebuilt 914 axles ready to install with two cvs of course for 195.

looks like a VW CV to me, look at the boot, it has the 6 thru holes instead of 4....there is no relief for the gasket....

it's a shame to see Zims screw people over if it is just a stock VW replacement CV....

I HAVE real originals for 165 each....new in the box.

The one I was shown was machined for the gasket.

Assuming what they are selling is not the original OE CV, it would be better if their ad spelled out exactly whay you are getting.

914 CV joint
This New 914 Porsche CV joint *differs slightly from the original
Porsche/Lobro unit which has been discontinued. We sell this unit after some
special machining of the joint to make it compatible for this application.

This new comes complete with the following parts:
1 new (not rebuilt) quality made CV joint
1 new quality made boot with gold cad metal flange attached
1new bag of high temp EP rated grease
1 new adjustable band clamp for small end of boot
1 new circlip
It DOES NOT come with the following parts that we recommend you replace when
installing these new joints:
4 per each joint, new bolts (pn 893.407.237)
2 per each joint, new roll pins (pn 999.095.019.00)
1 per each joint, gasket (pn 914.332.237.01)
All these additional parts are available from our inventory

*PLEASE NOTE: There is a slight difference in the outer diameter of the new
joint on the side of the unit that the axle boot goes over. On the Porsche
piece it measures 93.88mm (3.696), which makes the metal flange fit over it
very snugly. On the new joint is has an under cut step already machined onto
that side of the joint and is cut down to 89.89mm (3.539). This step makes
the boot fit loosely over this side of the joint, but since the bolts line
it up anyway it makes no difference.

If you are concerned about leaking grease, (which I should not be a problem
anyway because once it is clamped together with the bolts it won't leak
anyway), you can carefully fill this small gap with some silicone seal as
you assemble the boot to the joint. You must be careful to NOT get too much
silicone in between the end of the joint and the boot though. If you get too
much there it will cushion the torque of the bolts and allow them to come
loose. Just a small amount on the sides is good, not a huge amount that will
squeeze into the wrong places.
