I got my flares a week or so ago,and Saturday was the day to git'er going.


It's now or never.


I've attached a few pics.The first one being the before shot.

Next one is the after removing the fiberglass units.It took 2 hours to remove them and still keep'em re-usable.

Now with'em tacked & fitted,


I have some big holes to fill from the previous owner putting the fiber units on.

I'd say it's best to start with a non-flared car to begin the transformation.

Driver's side is the worst of my 2 sides to do,but it'll still work out okay.

Passenger side is pretty much done minus the fill at the back.


Both ends of each flare req'd major reworking to make them meet the rocker and
the spoiler.


I'm gonna re-shape the ends of the spoiler and have it repainted so it'll all match.

and you are increasing the value of your car by ten grand with the steel flares.

Which is exactly why I'm not shy about carving up my nice looking car.

Awesome work there - there's nothing I like more than a work thread I can't wait to get stuck into doing mine, but I'm still saving up for the terrible shipping costs back to the UK before I buy

The rears are gonna be welded in place w/a set of 15" wheels I have that already have the correct back spacing.

Then they will be sectioned to add 2" to either side while the 18" wheels are added.

There is a perfect pictoral view of widening the rears on AJ Serrano's website,so basically I'm just gonna copy off of that.It's really no big deal.

Fronts are on,butt welded,fender lips rolled,body work smoothed,

and next they get a shot of signal orange.


I did have to do major rework of the ends to get them to match the rockers and spoilers,but I did expect that.

So far,about 20 hours in the job.

The front flares are now welded,smoothed,and this past weekend I laid a few coats of epoxy primer on them.

I've got the front spoiler matching the flare correctly.


A little wet-sanding to level the primer,and I'll lay some signal orange to it.


I'm gonna repaint the front spoiler,the headlight covers and eyebrows all at the same time to match everything up.

What size tires are you running up front? Thanks. Oh yea, GORGEOUS, simply gorgeous.

Front rims/tires are 225/40-18's on 18x8" rims.

They are spaced out 1 extra inch from the hub.

If you look in the pic of the passenger side with the wheel of,you can see the 930 hub with the 930 spacer still on it.

It makes for a wide look.

Ron- I see that spacer now that you mention. Looks like a 944 spacer sitting on top of an old "crown" spacer. 65mm lugs? You ain't kidding about the wide look. Can't wait to see the backs. Thanks & please keep up the posts.

And finally,the fronts are painted and finished.

Their painted a basecoat clearcoat Diamont signal orange.


This week,I'll re-paint the spoiler.

A couple weeks from now I'll color sand and buff the fenders to completion.

Still waiting for mine (Flares).. but thats OK with me .. can't beat the deal ..... Plus I still have a ton to do with my Subie conversion ....

Looks like you did a great job of tweaking the bottoms of the flares. Takes a little patience and a lot of hammering but your end result looks good. Pretty damn quik turn-around too!

The flare bottoms are the difficult part.


They were sawed,sectioned,and rewelded several times to achieve a balanced look.They cannot be used as is.

A little more work,but I'm ok with that.

I actually have worked in a metal fabrication/machine shop for the last 20yrs.

Here's the problem area for those wondering. The flair is flat at the bottom and the fender is angled. Mine also seemed a little off in height. (YMMV)

Got a couple here.

W/o the rockers or valence the look a little rough when you look at the bottom side.

With the rockers and valence on,the edges look fine.

And finally the front flares are done.


This weekend,I color sanded and buffed the fenders,painted the front valance,and reinstalled everything.


Now It is on to the rears!
