Anyone doing a six conversion and want Nickies for a 2.4/2.7/2.8? I have the first sets ever made ready for sale. And just for these intro sets (I have one set of 2.4s and one set of 2.7/2.8s) i'm selling the six cylinder set at four cylinder pricing. These cylinders have oe style seal grooves and are of the likeness of the original cylinders, so they'll fit like a glove without any mods. Here's your chance to try the best. Just provide your own pistons and use late model 911 head studs (those compatible with aluminum cylinders) or ARP studs and you're set! Email me for pricing and pics :-)

I'm pulling the 2.2T out of my 71 911 and I'd like to build a SS 2.5 out of it, meaning 89 or 90mm P&C's. I plan to have my rod ends rebushed to answer the low compression problem.

What do you have that would work in this situation? I want to use S-cams and have roughly 9.5:1 or 9.8:1... no dual plug mods for me. What pistons do you recommend?

Yes, very nice, but you're gonna have to do "something "
about your pricing.

I've seen new in the box Mahle RS spec *pistons & cylinders* priced $1500-1700 in the past few months.

Eric: I would advise against using your 71 case for 90mm cylinders. It's been done and you *may* get away with it,
but a 5r(good) or 7r (better) case is the hot ticket.

I have 84s and 90s on the shelf ready to bolt in. Regarding pistons, I have never spec'd out a set of custom JEs for a 911, so I would most likely recommend using either OEs or JEs, both of which I think I can source from EBS or similar outfits.

Now that I have everyone's attention, I'd like some input on where I should actually source pistons from so in the future I can make sure i'm providing the best available to my customers.

I'm all for doing a group buy to clear our the remainder of my inventory and i'm sure we can drop the price if enough people count their pennies....

I have seen what goes into these cylinders, and used more than any other soul on earth!

As for pricing, he is already making very little profit. these cylinders are not cast- They are billet, and they are absolutely PERFECT in every facet.

I used the second set of Nickies ever made and can tell you now that nothing touches them! The price could be twice as much as it is currently and they would still be worth it!

I have JE pistons in both my porsches now. ABout 10 yrs ago I did a rebuild and succefully used Arias pistons

Mahle go without saying, however they dont make "custom" CRs etc.

Damn.. I have a tricked out 3.2 that needs P+C's and a 2.4 case tricked out needing P+C's.

I say JE. I also say Call EBS for the pistons (JE will ask 500 technical questions that the normal Joe cant answer when ordering pistons).

I pretty much live by JE pistons for higher Performance engines. Mahle has been going WAY down hill in the past few years, especially their piston balancing! I haveseen 23 grams difference in ONE set out of the box. Its impossible to remove 23 grams from a piston and keep it safe!

Im always willing to work woth Charleson piston designs! Tell us the CR you want and the bottom end spaces and head CC and thats what you'll get!

I think Mahle was bought (or at least the US distributor was bought) We are now seeing ads for Mahle Motorsports out of South Carolina/North Carolina.

You'll not get far with the 9eleben crowd by poor mouthing Malhe P/Cs. They have untold millions of miles of both racing and street use backing up their reputation for excellence....Nikasil & Ausil. Thay also offer 90mm pistons
in 9.5 & 10.5 :1 ...albeit, at horse choker prices. Naturally these came out after I bought 90mm Shasta pistons for my 2.7L.

I have held the RS piston & the Shastas (one in each hand).
The weight difference is dramatic. WAG, the Shasta weighs 2/3 of the Mahle. The Shastas are made from JE forgings.

As to the pricing:
I was just stating what the marketplace is. The T-1 thru
T-4 crowd has no alternatives (AFAIK). The same is not so for the 911 bunch.

I do ALOT of dynamic balance onf 911 engines (all years) and the Mahle pistons have just been getting worse and worse......The newest 911 engine I work on is a 2.7, I know little about the newer engines.

Just like everytghing else, Mahle has gone down hill also over the years.....thats just the facts!

I can attest for LN's products. I held the first (and second set) of Nikkis and I helped Shad build his motor that used the first ever set of Nikkis. That car has been all over this country and is still running strong. Anyone who was at the Yipsi MI show this past year heard Shads car revving off the rev limiter numerous times during the day. He beats on it HARD.

Heck, I know LN pretty well, they slept in my living room this year on the way to a show!!! LOL, it's an outstanding company that is run by some standup people.

I'll have some pics for upload tomorrow morning or afternoon on both the 84s and 90s, as soon as my wife has a chance to shoot the pics for me. I also want to fill in the remainder of the 911 product line, so give me your input guys. Let me know what other cylinders are desired, give me a sample to work off of, and i'll get rolling on it asap.

Ok ok. I got emails from some anxious folks, so I dragged my wife away from the TV to take some pictures for me to share with everyone. For reference, I threw in there a 97mm Mahle Nikasil cylinder just to show the difference between cast and billet. Also note a few new touches like all the surfaces that were milled have been gone over with a custom radius-ing cutter to give every surface a detailed, intricate, and finished look. Finally, notice there's no plating on these. I want to make sure that the proper piston to cylinder clearances are established, so i'm waiting till I know exactly what piston is going to be used before having them finished. Right now, just the 2.7/2.8 L cylinders in 90mm bore. Although they appear thick enough to handle an overbore. With the next run of Nickies, I would like to offer them in larger displacements but I need input from you guys to find out which ones should be next. Not to mention I need sample pieces off of which to take sample measurements. (and people to buy them!)

okay, i'm still confused.

traditionally, 2,7 is 90x70,4 and 2,8 is 92x70.4.

so are these 90's, or 92's ?

They can be bored out to 92mm, hence the 2.8...sorry if I didn't make that clear. As they are on the shelf, they are bored for 90mm, but there's nothing saying that I can't overbore them and plate them to size. That begs the question of how far can you go on one of these cylinders?
