what size star are the bolts on the CV Joints?

Not sure, but it's not a torx bit (if that's what you were thinking). I went to Napa, asked the guy about it and told him what it was for. He knew what it was and went and got the bit. I said, "Are you sure that's the right size?" He said, "It's the only size." I think it's some funky thing that only they use. Hope that helps.

M8 Triple Square. Also known in VW Bug circles as "the CV Joint Socket", because they (and some 911s) use the same fastener as us!

Check yours to see if some PO replaced them with regular Allen heads.

At least the ones on my car look like ordinary allen bolts but have 12 corners.

It looks right to me. A 12 point triple square.

Sometimes called a VW CV joint tool.
8mm is the sized needed.
I bought a multi pack from Autozone for about $9.00.

Lisle makes a set I've seen at PepBoys.

This type works but requires using a 1/2" socket.
If I was to buy another tool, I'd buy one that directly
attached to a 3/8" or 1/2" socket wrench.
