My 99 Subaru has 170K miles on it and I was convinced I had dodged the head gasket curse. Well, yesterday while checking fluids I revved the engine and saw a big air bubble come up in my coolant overflow.

Crapola.
Now I have two cars needing a new engine. headbang.gif

Yeah but an engine for a subie is alot less than a new one for a 914 smile.gif

you do however need more than a floorjack to pull it though!

then there is that ECU compatibility thing.
I'd rather not splice the harness in the car, but a deal on engine is a deal on an engine.

maybe someone here is tired of their STI conversion and wants to unload it?

Is it over heating? If not probably just an air bubble
brer
I wish it was just an air bubble.

Unfortuneately I think its going to need to come apart.
or be replaced.

Do a leakdown test. One burp does not necessarily mean a blown head gasket. I've got a leakdown tester if you'd like to borrow it. (I'll be down in the SD area in March)

A 1999 Outback? If it's a 2.5 the Cylinder liners usually crack causing combustion to enter the cooling systems

A fellow teener lives around the corner from me and he's offered to lend a hand, he has a tester too. thanks for the offer though.

We shall see what we sees. This year in particular was plagued with the headgaskets going out, so i'm totally prepared....

just not ready right this second.
