I got this 76 from Rob Watson. It will be my driveable resto for a while to come. I drove it at 80mph (70 actual with my smaller tires) for about 2 hours to get it home with the wife following me. There were a couple small sputters on the way home, but the engine just purrrrrred along at about 3300rpm. ( I even got my first smile and head nod from a biker passing me on the highway) When we got it home there was a light speckeling (sp?) of oil over the front of my wife's car car, and so far I have only found a little rust damage behind the seats in the corners. Here are the pics of my new baby.

And finally the (I believe) place where the oil is escapeing my engine, the rectangular opening.

Congrats!
A white interior! Wow, rare. Looks nice, IMHO.
Welcome to the madness.

Great looking car. Nice color...5 lug is nice extra bonus too. Welcome
It looks like the car has had some repair to the clutch tube (see bolts where the cable exits the firewall). As sure by-product of rust. Check the longs carefully as well as all the usual suspect locations.
There should only be air coming out of that rectanglur hole. Keep looking for the source of oil. You will probably have to spray and clean the bottom to get dry, then drive some more and look for wet spots to find the source.
keep us posted!

White interior, 5 lug conversion, black trim on the roll bar, very nice. Congrats on your aquisition & have patience... you will find more rust but it can be fixed & is worth it.

That's pretty typical. I doubt that the blower housing is where you're oil is coming from. These things leak. Traveling at 70 mph, some of that leaking oil is going to end up on whatever car is behind you.

It's a feature.

i think if the oil was coming out of the square opening where the heat xchanger should hook up, a drip would be seen and a puddle directly below. take $10 to the local spray-n-wash and clean the engine and trans. jack up each side when cleaning. drive around for a while, let it sit for an hour, and take a peek underneath. i had a valve cover gasket fail and pretty well covered the front of dave hunt's car.

Thanks for the support. I got under her and wiped her down with about half a roll of paper towles and then ran her for a couple minutes and found oil dripping frm just inboard of the oil filter, and down the oil filter. The oil cooler is covered in oil also, but I can't tell if that is from a leak associated with it or if that is just from it being sprayed by the leak that is covering the oil filter. Other than replacing the oil filter to make sure it is seated properly, is there anything else I should check/replace while I have the filter removed?
Also, could someone tell me (in post #4 pic) what that wire is that comes out of the firewall just above the clutch cable? It seems to have some kind of small probe attache to the end that can be seen just at the upper right of the pic.
Thanks,
Jim

Your leak is probably the oil pressure "idiot light" sender, just aft of the distributor. When it leaks, oil tends to drip down onto the oil cooler and make a big mess in that direction.
The "wire" you are talking about is just a pull-cable; it is what operates the heater "flapper valve". Pull on the red "DEFROST" lever between the seats and the cable should be pulled inward; that is what opens up the flapper valves. There should be two cables, one going toward each side of the car.

Thanks Dave. I will check that as soon as I get a day where I get off work before the sun goes down. That should be easier now with the time change.

Thanks DD, it is the oil pressure sender. I wiped every thing down that I could reach and sure enough, about 15 seconds after starting her up oil cam out of the sender between the plastic and metal of the sender.
Some other good news. I found a local performance shop just a block from where I work. They are presently working on 3 914s as well as many other performance cars. I talked with my company mechanic and he said they are a little on the high price end, but they do excellent work. So now I have a shop to go to when all else fails.
