I hope the bus isn't your idea of dependable daily transportation. You do know they have built cars after the 70's right? Go find you a nice 1985 Dodge Reliant K car and enjoy the technology. LOL.
And don't even think about picking up your girlfriend at her parent's house in a van, even a VW bus.
Good luck with the bus and post some pictures.
It can certainly become a reliable and cheap form of daily transportation.
It will also fair better in the snow that the 914, though the heat will not be very good. Once you have it, take a look at the long pipe that goes up to the front with the "hot" air.
That pipe needs a good wrap of insulation, and that helps alot. The other thing is get the 2.5 inch bilge fans from your local boat shop, and add them inline to the defrost lines...that also helps.
As far as reliable and cheap goes...I stand firm on that point.
I am just finishing a "tune up" on a volvo with 160k mile.
Lets review how "cheap" it really is to have a new car.
Wires, cap, rotor, plugs $145.00
Two 02 sensors $240.00
I have yet to do oil and air filters, and we can go on.
ow, a tune up on a simple bus/914...
Cap rotor, wires, plugs, points, condensor 89.00
Done.
Lets look at the cat price for the volvo...425.00
the muffler 230.00
This car is no more reliable than any other car....its just more money and hias nicer seats...
