So my new bus is painted some fugly green color, i'm going to get the sunroof working again, and put some nice foglights and paint it blue/white.....

Now I just need to find a Delorean with a flux capacitor and some plutonium.

He does have one on it's way.

That would be pretty cool, but I'll stick with my Econoline.
bd1308

that clutch will make my bus pop wheelies right?

I'm sure your girlfriend's parents will be thrilled. smile.gif
bd1308
They signed off long ago to the idea.

I've been looking for a bus for about two straight years.
rwjames
I hope the bus isn't your idea of dependable daily transportation. You do know they have built cars after the 70's right? Go find you a nice 1985 Dodge Reliant K car and enjoy the technology. LOL.

And don't even think about picking up your girlfriend at her parent's house in a van, even a VW bus.

Good luck with the bus and post some pictures.

I named my dog Einstein after Doc Brown's dog...

It can certainly become a reliable and cheap form of daily transportation.
It will also fair better in the snow that the 914, though the heat will not be very good. Once you have it, take a look at the long pipe that goes up to the front with the "hot" air.
That pipe needs a good wrap of insulation, and that helps alot. The other thing is get the 2.5 inch bilge fans from your local boat shop, and add them inline to the defrost lines...that also helps.

As far as reliable and cheap goes...I stand firm on that point.
I am just finishing a "tune up" on a volvo with 160k mile.
Lets review how "cheap" it really is to have a new car.
Wires, cap, rotor, plugs $145.00
Two 02 sensors $240.00

I have yet to do oil and air filters, and we can go on.

ow, a tune up on a simple bus/914...
Cap rotor, wires, plugs, points, condensor 89.00

Done.

Lets look at the cat price for the volvo...425.00
the muffler 230.00

This car is no more reliable than any other car....its just more money and hias nicer seats...

I want one like this...

Congratulations. Looks like a good bus.

krazykonrad
Drop a 6 in it and make it a tow vehicle for race dayand paint it up like the Porsche bus! That would rule!

Nope.. those pieces of junk are radiator laden pieces of colored plastic, recycled beer cans and coke bottles.. The newest car I own is a 1976 and it's not because I can't afford something else..

No thanks, it has a radiator.

Here is my other bus doing a 3rd gear burnout... That was taken in 2001 and since then we have put 60K miles on the bus towing and using it for a company vehicle. Please don't tell me that a TIV powered Bus can't be reliable-

Yes jake, this is my idea of reliable transportation.

EDIT: OK I see now....that was a quote.. I was confused for quite a bit, but I saw it.

I enjoy cars made in the 70s, thier technology is simple and easy to work on....

there are no smog laws in KY....

This is a 77, it does have a T4 inside.

I believe my final lineup will be:
74 914
77 Lybian Terrorist Bus
74 Ghia (New aquisition--next on list...has 2110 in it)
bd1308
One thing I wouldnt be so safe with is a T1 camper....

that would be bad.
