Full Version: Free: Solid Targa Top Seal
914World.com > The 914 Forums > 914World Garage
Rusty
I have a used targa top seal that's in very good condition. No splitting, no cracking. No 'patches' with black RTV. There's still some powder on the sides where it was installed.

I'm going to give it away for a member to use on their car. Free. I'll even pay shipping.

So, what's the catch? There's been a couple of threads recently about do-it-yourself tech articles. idea.gif

The first person to submit three original tech articles gets the seal. type.gif

You can use stuff on this site (or others) if you credit the original poster in your research. You may not simply copy or "slightly rephrase" other posted articles. You don't need to know HTML. You can submit as a word or text document with pictures.

I just have one and its the BOMB!:

I'd like the seal because I can make more for other 914 club members at a HUGE DISCOUNT if it is in good shape. I will also have metal in it to make it work just like the original. Mine is in poor shape and would add alot of extra time for me to make a good first batch. I do have a friend that has a good one but I don't want to damage his in the process since there will be a need for me to use it extensively for the tooling process and I will probably need to keep it for as long as I'm making them. beer.gif

Rusty
Nope... not an April Fool's joke.

here's a picture of the seal.

That's pretty cool Rusty! smilie_pokal.gif

I'll be updating the latest thread on the tech article subject with some organizational news, perhaps starting a new thread, etc... later this evening.

Seperate how to articles with pictures

On what level can these articles be in?

Clutch change, Brake swap/Bleed, Timing?

All three need to be done on my car.
McMark
I'm guessing we're talking about detailed step by step, with pictures, type stuff. But it's Rusty's contest. wink.gif
markb
Does my re-key how-to count, or do I start from scratch?
Rusty
McMark is right. Step-by-step with pictures.

Mark B... if you write it up as a how-to article, then it counts. smile.gif

And to help Krusty Rusty out ..... I will add a NEW NOS lower targa seal to the deal.

To your glorified typewriters computers .... let the games begin.
Rusty
A thank you to Ron... and a quick bump for this thread!

I know Lawrence said that you didn't have to know html, but for those of you that can follow this simple template it would be greatly appreciated. No pressure though, whatever you can do is fantastic.

Here's a quick template for formatting the pages:

In the next week or so, here is what I am planning to do.
If this fits, I will document it.

Remove and replace front end.

So,
Bearings R/R adjust
Ball joints R/R
Tie Rods---> turbo tie rods
Steering Rack bump steering kit
Front A-arm plastic bushings--->bearings

I will document this last one, just for a few of us who have been trying
Adding a pillow block and bearing setup to stop the anti-sway bar from hitting the gas tank.

And on Rockets car...Closed door paint job. Cheap and fast. 2 days.

I could write a pretty good one on the disassembly of a car in good shape.

That's about it though...

OK, no offence to anyone involved but I thought this should be told for future porsche people to understand what "can happen" if you don't have the best tools for the job.

being fairly computor "ILLiterate". i have questions
1 do we erease "name of step" and insert "our step/remove muffler bearing" for example
2 inserting pictures, is it a picture or a link if we put in url from say photobucket? can we upload a picture somehow as we do in topics or responses?

1 - Yes, exactly

2 - Either one will work fine. Ultimately we will want the pics loaded on our own server. Ideally, you could upload them to your blog, but even that isn't strictly necessary. Just as long as we get the text doc and the pictures (some how) we're good. You could simply list the name of the picture file at the appropriate place in the doc and then submit the pics along with the doc. One way or another, well get it done.

Doin fine so far...

Is there a "retroactivity" clause for this??? Does my flair install proceedure count? Howbout my Weber tuning proceedure? If so only one more to go!

We'll have to wait for Lawrence since he made the rules. I would think though that there would at least need to be an attempt made to format the articles as described in earlier posts in this thread.

BTW - Pictures need to be no wider than 800 pixels. 800x600 is the perfect size.

I'll have a member submitted sample posted very shortly to show an example of what a member can do!

Check out Rob Watson's Dash Top Vinyl Installation article. Rob did a great job on it.

Thanks Rob!
