Full Version: Ok to run without heater stuff?

All during winter I've had both my heater valves permanently propped open (heater cable connection angle weld broke off) but now it's getting too hot to leave them on. So I'm wondering instead of just closing both valves and having them dump hot air out right next to the fuel pump and underneath the engine, would it be ok to just completely remove all my heater stuff for summer?

This would leave just the HE's heater boxes open but I don't see any harm in that.
I want to do this because it makes working underneath the car soooo much easier......
So what do you think?

I had my heater tubes out all summer last year
car never got above middle gauge (but my fuel pump is up front)

Thanks.
I figured it'll be ok
I'm just sure if the heater design helps with cooling at all.
I know I'll be leaving the pushrod cover plates on though.

I've run a couple decades with out a heater, no problem. But I did seal the

air supplys from the blower housing for the heater.

How'd ya do that?

I have read a few ways here, though I only remember how I did it. But after

I was done I thought of a better way so I will give you both.

1) I cut squarish pieces of styrofoam and stuffed them into the holes so

3/8"s of an inch deep area was left. I then used latex calking (not silicone) and

filled the 3/8" to the lip. Wet your finger with water or spit and smooth out the

surface. Hasn't budged. Being it was latex it will take paint once it is dry.

2) I thought of this after I got married and started hearing "It's cold in here, why

don't you fix the heater". Should have done it this way. Find yourself a couple

rubber balls that will stuff in there tight, then calk the ball inplace around the

outside. Use volcum(SP?) (if possable) calking it's strong shit, let dry before

driving the car.
