I now have 8 x 15 inch wheels on the back and am wondering if it's okay to run 205's. I'm asking because most of the manufacturers suggest a wheel width of 6-7.5" for a 205 tire. Are there any safety issues with putting it on a wider wheel?

I want to put the Falken Azenis 205's all the way around.

My other option is to put a 225 on the rear and 205 on the front, but there are only a couple of decent high performance tires in both sizes.

IIRC, people run them. How about some Yokohama ES100s? They come in both sizes and are comparably priced to the Falkens. more info

Glad to hear you got some fat meats!

I run 225x50-15 Hoosiers on 15x8 fuchs.

205s fit great on a 7" wheel.

The ES100's are one of my options. On the more expensive side are tires from BF Goodrich and Toyo.

Yep, finally filled out those flares! I even got a set of 1/4 in. spacers for the front. I'm stylin'! biggrin.gif

I have 235/60's on the rear now but soon to have 245/50/16 on 9's.

225/50-15 is as narrow I would go on 8" wide rims.

or a 23 x 9 x 15 Cantilevered slick works real nice.

Or 225/45-15 DOT R Hoosier.

But I would never think of a ES100 as a good tire.

Before I bought the 8's I was set on the ES100's and then I read a post where you had said they were not that good of a performance tire, and that got me thinking. I will probably only do a few autocrosses a year, but I don't want some dog tire on my wheels when I do take the car out.

I have 8's on all four corners with 215/60 for stock ride height with factory flares. Too low is not good around here.

we've been through this before.
and i got tarred and feathered, burned alive and beaten to a virtual death for my opinion.

please, do *not* mount a tire on a rim size that is not within the range of what the manufacturer has published.
and especially not if your planning on driving that tire close to the limit.
do not simply "assume" it's safe just because someone told you so.

you are going to get yourself and/or others hurt.

and that's all i have to say about this.

That's my setup, too. And since it's the same tire diameter as stock, your speedo is correct.

I had a 215/ 60 on a 16 x 8" rim on my camaro, one day I took a turn to fast and the tire ripped from the bead (came loose from rim). Luckily nothing broke, I would agree with everyone else not to go smaller than a 205 on a 8" rim.
i love porsche
how do you find the staggered tire size works...run 225s all around on my 924S for AX..but for the 914 i will be running 225 front, 245 rear...do you get alot of understeer with that?
Aaron Cox
i can throttle steer the car nicely with the staggered setup. we are talking an inch or so difference in track.

you can tune it with springs, ride height, sway bars etc....

If you don't want a "dog tire" then get a good tire.
Yokohama Advan Neova
Falken Azenis Rt 615
Hankook RS-2
Kumho MX

All good street tires that kick ass on the Autocross scene in Street tire classes. The Neova is VERY close to DOT R tires in grip. Proof that you get what you pay for.

I agree! I've worked in the Tire industry over a dozen years and have been a racer/autoXer since the late '80s...STAY WITHIN THE MANUFACTURERS SPECS for wheel widths.

Now a little bias here for street rubber....have a look at Bridgestone RE01R 195/50R15, RE750 205/50R15 or 195/50R15, Potenza G009 205/50R15 or 195/50R15,Re040 205/50R15...all nice tires for different applications....
I have the New RE01R on order for my 15x7 Fuchs.

Thanks for the suggestions Joe, but those tires either aren't available in 15" or don't come in 225, which I need for the 8" wide wheels. Otherwise I would have already bought the Falken. You are right though, I need to stop being a CSOB and just spend the money for a good tire. I'll probably go with either the BF Goodrich KD or Toyo RA1. Both offer 205 (fronts) and 225 (rears) in 15".

I was wrong, the Hankook Rs2's do come in 225.

Just ordered a set from my local America's Tire. I decided to put 225's all around. I found them online for $99 including shipping and they matched that price and they'll have them this weekend.
