I accelerated from a stop light in first gear. Just short of 5,000 rpm, I heard a pop come from the engine compartment from behind the passenger seat. Immediatly the red generator light came on.

Can anybody diagnose what the issue is from my description? If not any guesses?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
j.

Sounds like you lost your fan belt.
It's an easy fix.

In my case, it was the alternator pivot bolt--made one heck of a noise once the belt grabbed it and threw it across the engine bay! I found it lodged between the battery and the firewall. I shudder to think what would have happnened if it had actually hit the battery.

Was a simple fix. Fan belt was loose and just came off. Simple reinstall and tighten and everything is just peachy keen.
