Just bought a set from a member here and they look pretty nice, but I thought I would clean them up a bit before installing. Seems as though I heard mention of hot tanking. Is that ok for an exhaust/heat system? Inquiring minds and dummies want to know. idea.gif

brake cleaner................the universal cleaner

You can also use simple green, if you are an environmentalist.

Or Bartender Keeper

I think yours are pretty clean, so they probably don't need any real scrubbing.

you travel half way around the World just to get an answer from me?

I had excellent results with engine brite (foaming stuff) and a schotchbrite pad.

My oil caked ssi's ended up bright and shiny again!

I had excellent results with several applications of Easy Off oven cleaner and extra fine steel wool. I finished them off with Mothers metal polish. I tried brake cleaner, but the fumes were way too strong for my liking.

Here's the link to my earlier thread, with before and after pictures.

They are stainless so you don't need to worry about rust. I used pressure washer concentrate inside and out. Flushed with lots of water.

Shelby,

I agree with all of the above.
And something else you might want to look at for the NON stainless steel part of your exhaust is this. stuff... It totally rocks. It works as good as the website says.

Da Bomb RUST Stuff.

Cheers,
Clayton

Purple Stuff and Scotchbrite pad. Couldn't even tell before if the HE were SS.
