Is there an equivalent to 914World for the 911S Community?

I have a colleague at work who is looking into buying a '76 911 S and wants to talk to a few people, get some opinions, do some research before jumping in head first.

Can you point me to any good resources?

Thanks in advance!

Pelican ,as Trojanman said is good. RennTech has some older 911 stuff, but not like this forum.

http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?

Also RennList.

PCA site has an ask-the-experts type Q&A and some registries. Not sure if membership required for access to Q&A. It is for registries.

I second Pelican and Rennlist. Both good sources for 911 info

What's a 911? other than a parts donor for a 914

There's probably enough 911 guys here to give him a good start.

That car raises a few red flags in my book but... it could very well be an excellent value. All depends.

There are a few 911 boards, the best one depends on the year of the car at issue.

For a '76, the 911 Tech board on Pelican is the best by far.

And he should definately post there BEFORE he buys a '76. That year is very dangerous with lots and lots of issues.

While trying to decide what kind of fun car to buy I came across these sites:

http://www.early911sregistry.org/
http://www.early911s.com/
http://www.356-911.com/
http://www.912bbs.org/

I'm not sure they all have active forums like this group but they're probably all worth a peek every now and then.

Like any Porsche purchase a PPI is a good idea. With the 1974-1977 it REALLY is a good idea as they were prone to pulling head studs. Once the head stud issue is addressed these can be excellent engines. Also these cars were for the most part not galvanized so rust can be a problem. I'm a 911 guy also and Pelican is hard to beat for forums and parts.

Is that what it was really intended for ???
I thought a 911 was a weird looking rounded back 914 with a spare engine in the rear trunk. happy11.gif

Thanks all,

The loud sound you may have just heard is my smacking myself in the head and saying "D'OH!". I didn't even think of Pelican, but I can imagine that they are an excellent resource.

Thanks again!

You can always ask The Cap'n. I've been working on 911s since 1973, and I drive a '65. I also have an SC for sale, BTW (shameless plug!). The Cap'n
