So I bought a V8 conv. car that needs quite a bit of work. I want to do it right, which means a bit of $$ that I will not have for a while. I started a new job which is in my field of study, but a slight decrease in pay with no overtime opportunity until the 1st of the year.
Anyway, the relay board was removed and the main harness end hacked off and wired to run the V8. I've stripped all the V8 stuff out of the car to evaluate it, most of it needing to be replaced. However, I have a strong 1.7 sitting in the garage from my last 914. My thought was to throw it in the car so I can drive it while I accumulate parts over the next year. It will be a carbed engine, so my question is do I need the relay board to run it? Does the relay board control anything other than engine?

Heater blower fan and charging system come to mind.
Don't throw it away, recycle it!!! This means sell or give it away

It never came with one.... hence my situation.

Voltage regulator is part of the relay board (kinda sticks off the side of it). Not sure how to get around that one.
Wish I could answer more.

I sure you can find one easily enough and I don't think they are that expensive.
My car is carb'd but I still use the board and relays for various other functions (e.g. fuel pump, heater blower, and ext oil cooler fan). It is really very straight forward once you study the wiring diagram and it keeps your engine bay for looking like a spider's nest of wires if you use it in conjuction with the stock wiring harness.
good luck.
